I was wondering, whether it is a good idea to use a protective bra for the front bumper and hood when riding on the Autobahn at 150mph??
I always had the problem with stone chipping and had bad experience with Folia tec protective foil, which burns into the paint after few years.

Apart from being utterly ugly the black bras are probably for 55mph US highway cruising only. Imagine the bra torn off the bumper by the wind and stuck on your windshield at 150mph with no vision

The Bras require you to take care of your car very much - if you don't, dirt and dust underneath will tear up your paint worse than the stone chips do ...

I have a Colgan car bra and I've had it up to about 120 mph without it blowing off. I would recommend getting some cotton diapers and putting under the edges. It rubbed slightly, but only rubbed the Zaino off before I noticed it and got the diapers. no problems sense. I do recommend that you not use it in rain. You get a lot of dirt under it which can scratch. I'm happy with mine though. I also got the covers for the rear view mirrors.

so far I had two cars which showed the previous use of a bra. No matter how good of polishing, you could always see the difference in paint.
Not that the paint was scrached: but especially red faded more in the sunlight than underneath the bra - so kind of the protection worked to well.

BRas are basically a cosmetic piece. and any thing above 40 mph is nothing but a wind flap just slapping the hell out of your car and grinding small debris into your paint. Best bet is to repaint and add enpugh clearcoats to be able to buff out .

I have a lesson for you! DON'T DO 150 WITH YOUR CAMARO! If you go slower, chips will not have as much impact on the paint anyway. I know it's hard, but I wouldn't want anyone to go through what I've gone through.

Isn´t there something like clear, nearly invisible adhesive foil to protect the front bumper?
I think the german ricer company "Foliatec" sells something like that, never tried it (my bumper is messed up anyway and I can reach 150 just in free fall  ).

I wonder what's worse - a couple stone chips, or having a stupid adhesive foil on the car ...

True to some degree
But if its done by professionals i guess you really won´t notice it, and its much more protection than clear coat.

Stone chips show that the car is actually driven. If your worried about bugs, spray some non-stick cooking spray before you head out. Bugs tend to come off very easy and the spray comes off in the wash. Just don't leave it on weeks at a time. (I don't know what it will do if left on for that long.)
I had a Wolf brand bra and it slowed me down at the top end. I lost almost 10 mph, 150-155 mph :( . The bra did NOT have those little "deflector" thingies on the top. Dirt will get underneath and scratch your paint and the bra will eventually tear at the seams where the straps are. Never did come off until I took it off after I lost a couple of attaching straps.

For the bugs, a couple of coats of Zaino will make it easy to remove ... just about nothing will ever stick to your car anymore with it on ...

I need to get some. That butter flavored Pam looks funny on the front of the car...

If you don't want a bra, 3M makes a clear adhesive film for the front. Afterthoughts Auto has them custom cut for the Camaro.

Wow, what a lot of replys after just one day! :P
You just confirmed my view that these bras can do more harm than good.

The same was with this Foliatec addisive foil on my daily driver.
After 4 years the foil looked brown and ugly and actually burned into the paint, so no polishing can remove this. From Foliatec I got 300EUR compensation, because they did not say that you have to remove the foil after two years. The advertisement just spoke about longlasting protection against stone chipping.

Jack, whatever happened to you, I wish you good luck!
On the photos in Prague you looked so happy with your girlfriend.

By beginning of February I will spend another 3 month in Changchun, North China for my company. Even there I have seen a 3rd generation Camaro.
After my return in May I will send a long wish list to Lmperformance. They got simply the biggest variety of performance parts.

Cheers!
Gunnar

Hi Roy,
I think you are confusing something. I have not asked for a meeting in Frankfurt, although I really like to see your car from all sides especially from underneath. I think last year I had asked you for some pictures of your Camaros underbelly. So, if there are some pics available....

These days I have little time, but I think I will put some suspension questions on the forum again soon. Maybe one day I will manage to find the time to come to one of the Fbody gatherings.

Gunnar
