Btw, anybody who only knows this film in the german synchronization, try to watch it in the original version --- as always, it loses so much being translated ... OK, the southern slang is probably a bit hard to understand, and some of the terms aren't necessarily easy to get if you don't know 'em, but it's worth the trouble ...

While I'm not necessarily too much around them southerners, _I_ don't have too much of a problem with it - nor with most of the southern food (you can throw them nice fried catfish at me anytime ... :) can't get 'em except while being on leave :(). I meant it might be hard for non-native speakers to understand ...

I have found that there is a problem here in Germany. When I go out and try out my German on someone, the Germans try their English out on me. So, I am sure it is a hoot to listen to, but it is hard me to concentrait. A few beers helps with German also, but it helps with so many things. Mmmmm beer.

for the most part i have been told that my german is good with no slang or dialect at all with the german that i know and told by some others that my vocabulary was weird.

a big problem here is that there are so many different local slangs and dialects, from northern germany to southern germany from town to town. even though what i say is basically high german local people know local german.

i saw smokey and the bandit when it first came out. the movie was and is still great.

another movie is "THE GUMBALL RALLY" . this came out around that same time and is killer too.

the translations tend to be a problem sometimes.
