Check out this link. Rob posted the times of the 99GT and it made me look this thread up. There are some very fast LS1's with minimal mods. Mainly NOS. These cars are deep into the 10's......http://208.238.17.66/ls1forum/Forum14/HTML/001402.html

I want to clear this up, because I assumed everyone would know I was comparing the juiced GT to a 'Stock' LS1. It should be painfully obvious that there are modded ones, (They finally went 9's, atleast 1 did).

But to get back to my point, even my wife could hook up a zex or tnt nos system up in about 1hr with no instructions, so for about 6 bills, they can run bottom 12's with only 100hp hit. That is incredible seeing how it will only have about 320-330rwhp. A LS1 already has that, and they dont run 12.3x's. These is important to know, because the majority of new car owners just slap on a cat back, and term themselves "Lord Supreme" and go hunting Vipers. The days of totally destroying the blue ovals (96-98) have passed us by, now its a game again, only drivers need apply. I for one am happy they finally caught up.

I have to disagree.. Ford has not caught up. Production is production. Adding a 100 shot is not really fair. If you add a 100 shot to a civic you are gonna be as fast as a stock GT(Maybe) F-bodies are the best bang for the buck that is out there.

Also take into consideration the fact that the F-body weighs more and has not changed its appearance to meet the wants of the massess.

I know there will always be a faster car, and there will always be a faster driver. But it does feel good to know that stock for stock we are superior. I like to look at it like this. If a mustang puts a 100shot in his car I am racing a modded car. If I put that same 100shot in mine he can just not bother even showing up. Racing is bring what you got so all is fair.

I do agree that mustangs are cheap to make fast, but we are still superior in stock form.

You make a great point about how the LS1 is superior out the showroom, but who leaves 'em stock. You are either modified, or your not. The LS1 gets to the point of diminishing returns almost immediatelly because it is so good to start with.

Case in point, the silver LS1 in GMHTP has Agostino stage II heads, a huge cam, and PCM...390.5hp and 378.4 torque.

Take a LT1 put the same stage II's, cam, and PCM reprogram and the dyno will spit out almost identical numbers. (GTP consistently gets over 400rwhp with just heads/intake porting, and cc306.)

The only valid reason for the above, is that a LT1 needs the improved breathing badly, but the LS1 doesnt, so minimal gain. Stock is fine for driving to the DMV to get your permanent tags, but will get your ass kicked on the everyday boulevard

As far as Ford closing the gap, I guess to me they have, because I'm lower on the food chain, and a 2 sec drop in ET to me is huge. A 13.8 @ 100+ for a auto on radials is a real threat on the street.
