Hi folks, i´m in the process of buying a winter / girl´s car.
It´s a 1992 Chevy Beretta GTZ Quad 4.
Any experience here with that type of car and what faults are chonic / should be specially inspected before buying it? The car has only 30k miles on it and has been in older folks hands almost all of the time and lokks shiny and very well cared for.
Is $ 3000 a good price ??

Hey Rampage it sounds like a sweet deal specially with 30,000 miles.
I knew you would look for the hot little engine
Don't have personal experience but have not heard bad things about that specific engine.

Unbelievable.
I just thought about buying a GTZ as winter car, too.
Well, but I´m limited to 1500Es...
Ram, do you know anything about the insurance rates etc. for that car?
Tax should be EURO2 = ca. 140E?

I´m driving there at 2 pm to talk it over with the guy.
That engine is a killer, 2.3 16V fourbanger with 182 hapees.
Will make the Honda crowd bleed, this baby revs till 7200....
If all goes well (meaning new girlfried and car!) we´ll have two black Chevy´s on next raceday... A V8 and a R4.
Hmmm, if i mended both engines together that would make a 8.0 W12 with some 500 hp. Sigh... Just dreaming.
Regarding Tax: Euro2 = € 6,75 per 100 cm³ equals 161,97 €
Don´t know about the insurance, but if you need one, it´s my girls problem, she´s in that business and i can ask

I have heard many a head warping on the quad 4's... they do run good though.

Woohaa!
Got the toy on Thursday.
Had to change the ignition coils, otherwise it runs fine....
Here´s the specs:
1992 Chevy Beretta 2.3 16V GTZ
Black
182 hp
142 mph top speed
25800 miles on it (proven!)
Payed $ 2850 for it.
... and busted a 928 Porsche on the way home
Regarding head warping:
The GTZ has some forged parts and i´ve seen cars in the ads with 140k miles on... so i´ll hope it will last.
Kinda like it, and it´s a collectable, too

Be sure to change the Oil Cap to the Mobile 1 synthetic one. That should be good for at least .000000000001 HP

.. when i has loads stickaz on it it will run as fast as da ´Maro, word.
J/K, It´s a fun toy, and i feel better than rolling in a Suzuki Swift.
Besides, it´s GM, after all :):):):)
And the oil cap is a minimum 5 hp, mind it!
Still kinda like my V8 better, more grunt n´rumble, eg. male.
The girl loves the GTZ, so she won´t be bugging me for the Camaro, which will save me a lot of sweat on the strip.
