Read a piece in Auto Express today that reckons it will be a pure 2 seater.

What the hey?

I have seen the pics from the Auto Show in Detroit and the car does look great!!! I dont know which engine or what ratings they will put on it...havent seen that stuff yet. But I could see me driving something like that one day....would never replace my true Trans Am love. But I also have to say that so far I like its styling better than the GTO. (I know...boo, hiss) But I just dont like it.

However, not sure I could deal with the Mustang as a two seater. I think that goes against the grain...just like I feel that a NON-US built GTO is a bad idea. Mustangs and other pony cars were built as 2+2s. Dont mess with that formula or else you end up with things that just arent right. I dont know if I could live with buying one of those GTOs (for example) just on that principal alone.

Maybe with the F-Body in hiatus, they think they need to go up against the 'vette ...

I hate the GTO. From the threads on LS1.com, so do a lot of other people.

Garry,

Maybe you are right, but there is definitely the niche for a 2+2 sports car that has been filled the last 35 years by these cars. For them to do that almost eliminates "our" market and relegates those who want a car in that niche to have to go with something imported.

If anything, Ford should really try to exploit that rather than try to run against the Vette. Or if they want to do that simply leave that to the Cobra Rs like they have so far. Or create a whole new car for that purpose a la GT40.

Just still in my strong opinion the Mustang was born a 2+2 and should remain that way.

Personly I don't care too much if the new Mustang will be a 2 seater only, most people I know don't make use of the 2+2 concept anyway.
I do hope though that now that the camaro is gone Ford will sell large amounts of its new Mustangs. The car looks really sweet, and if the engine combo is right I don't see a problem for Ford selling them like hot cakes.
Maybe that will make GM CEOs pull their head out of their asses and bring back the F-Body. :x

Not 100% certain, but I read somewhere that the Camaro would be making a return. Just wish I could remember where that was....

It was still going to be several years away though. In the meantime, I have to agree that I hope that Ford sells a LOT of Mustangs as a slap in the face to GM, but I also hope that its a 2+2. I would buy one of those ahead of the GTO.

I think that the Mustang, as shown at NAIAS is beautiful. Although I havent seen the interior
