Rumor has it that a law is gonna be passed limiting autobahn speeds to 130kmh. No more unrestricted areas anywhere. Anyone else heard or read this somewhere?
Man that is gonna suck if it is so. That was the sole reason for me extending!

Silas: This is a rumor since the 70s. Coming up every couple of years. I doubt it will happen...

I haven't heard that one ... don't think it's realistic - on the other hand - on some stretches, 130 would be an improvement *LOL*

Garry: Yeah, let's raise all limits below 130 km/h to 130 km/h.
BTW, have you heard that Italy has changed its autobahn limits from 130 km/h to 150 km/h (no rumor, that's the truth). I like that...

That will never happen in a country where most men love their car (and driving it at autobahn speeds) more then their wife...
I think the goverment also don´t wants to displease the big car car manufacturer like Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Audi etc, because they produce only cars for speeds bigger than 130, and as long as the chancellor likes his Audi A8 or his VW Phaeton that much, this will definitly not happen.

I remember hearing that rumor when I first got here back in late 99. I think we're safe for a while.

Well, there is already a law from 1978 ("Verordnung über eine allgemeine Richtgeschwindigkeit auf Autobahnen") in which the goverment recommends all car drivers not to drive faster than 130kmh on the Autobahn. Fortunately this is only a recommendation and no limitation
In 1998 the Green Party even wanted to limit the speed in cities to 30kmh, on country roads to 80kmh and on the autobahn to 100kmh. I´m not kidding! Thank God they hold not the majority in the parliament...
