My GTI always runs for only a matter of days before something else craps out. This time I was very fortunate that when it came apart when it did.
Yesterday I drove to work down A62 to the A6. As I got off the Landstuhl exit by Mickey Dee's the left front ball joint separated and folded the wheel up into the fender pulling the half shaft apart at the inner CV joint.
Not three minutes before I was cruising down the 62 (down that long @$$ bridge from the tunnel) at about 130Ks. All I could think of was the Sat Nite Live skit where the cat drives the car over the cliff. Anyway, got it picked up by Ramstein wrecking and taken to Kapaun AHS.
So yesterday was spent replacing the ball joint, half shaft, and removing what was left of the fender. It's back up on all fours, but not before I went through everything bolted to the bottom of that little bastard.
Got the fender today...life will be good again come the weekend. I hope so at least...the car is sold!

Peace!

Sounds like the car hated you! Just hope that it does not get you sued when a wheel falls off with the next owner.

Thanks for the concern for my safety...I'm okay now after I removed the seat from my @$$ due to the pucker factor

Good news...the new fender is on (it lines up better than expected) and the car is transfered :D
