Awesome!!!!! But it begs asking the question, how much did they sell the Z06 for? If it's too personal I understand but I'm dying to know. :D

That's awesome ZO6. Sounds like you have some pretty good luck. I just wonder how your wife felt about going from the Stang to the Rocky! :?

$31,900 for the Z06. When I checked KBB the weekend after seeing it, I used the zip code for my parents in Fayetteville NC. Wife didn't like the idea of getting a 2-seater since we have two kids, but I told her it didn't matter since she has a Jeep Grand Cherokee for family trips. Then she completely changed her opinion of the z06 when I let her take it to Nuernberg to go downtown with her mom. Now she's scheming to get another day with it. :?

Wow- $32K for a ZO6. I would have been all over that like a fat kid on a cupcake. It's nice to know that some people have good luck.

How'd you know I was fat and liked cupcakes?!?! I was planning on buying the '05 Stang, but I figured after getting all the options I wanted, the price would probably be around $30K and the HPs wouldn't even be close without a SC...and I'd have to wait several months for delivery....

I started with an 85 C4 and had it 3 years and it wrenched my heart out to let it go but with Child Support Agency tattooed on my azz, so began a period of eight very lean years filled with some right rubbish. This was partially remedied by my acquisition of a very nice black 1987 Z28 but the 3rd gens aren't the last word in quality construction and certainly aren't very quick so reports of the new LS1 4th gen running 13's was like being offered a Ferrari instead of a Ford Focus.

In 2001, I bought my 98 and whilst I was initially a little less than thrilled by the handling and high speed stability, it's such a moddable car so on went Bilstein springs and shocks and the full BMR monty to finally achieve what I wanted - a 4 seater Corvette that ripped up the tarmac with the best of them. Such an incredible car for the money.

This year, the Child Support ended and I got married so we had a double income and i was able to not only keep the Z28 but afford something else as well (The wife drives an Astra so we have our runabout). In truth, it was always going to be a Z06 but once you have the money, you get sidetracked into coupe and convertible considerations and I even considered a 1996 Viper which bit the dust on practicality issues. Then it came down to a decision on year and colour. I desperately wanted torch red but could only find an electron blue one with only 3800 miles on the clock. Paid $35500 for it. I love the car and a friend of mine just imported a torch red 03 Z06 and I'm glad I got the electron blue.

However much faster and better handling the Z06 may be, I still love the Z28. I did consider selling it this year to buy something else and the 05 Mustang GT is tempting because I can't afford a Caddy CTS-V which would be ideal for what I need. I can't help thinking that the Z28 will stick around though because I doubt the Mustang would be as good and I'd have to spend another shedload of cash modifying that too.

Suppose there's the rumoured 2007 Camaro to look forward to...

You guys and THAT DAMN EXCHANGE RATE! :x I wouldn't go to London again unless I won the lottery. That was ridiculous. It was like $20 a meal to eat at the cheapest restaurants. I do wish I got paid in pounds, though.

This is my story:
In 2001 I was working in India and there was not much to do.
Actually I was quite frustrated, because of too low workload, technical problems and the fact that I was the only European inbetween millions of Indians there.

I spent a lot of time in the internet looking for an affordable car:
It had to have more than 250hp and a styling that makes it stand out from the crowd.
I wanted to spend max. 40.000DM.

Actually it should have been a daily driver and should have been converted to LPG.
You know that this did not work out.

One day I found an american cars catalogue of 1998 in a book shop. I got stuck on the page showing the LS1 Camaro. I did not like the Firebird at that time. Only later when the hood with the big air ducts came I became jealous.
The funny thing was the description: While the Camaro was told to give “a thrilling yet predictable handling” the Firebird/ TA had a warning “Watch out for the sliding tail end in the wet!”

The final inspiration to go for a muscle car came from MADONNA. Who would have guessed??
Do you remember that video “What it is be like for a girl” (or so), were she picks up her granny from a nursing home in a yellow 2nd gen Camaro (I guess it was), than stealing a Firebird TA at the gas station?

This way I came to the famous conclusion that “There is no replacement for displacement”.
But I do not remember how I found the FBE forum.

The best moment was, when I picked up the car from the dealer. I had never seen a Camaro in real life before and it looked absolutely new. I cannot express in words what I felt, but a nice shiver came down my spine: This is my beast and people on the street should better watch out!!

Red 99 Camaro Z28 Euro-Model, M6, T-Top, Movit/ Porsche GT3 front brakes, Alutec Kyro 8,5x19" wheels, Geiger (H&R) springs, oil intercooler, Dynomax twin exhaust,
BUT THAN I MADE A MESS OF IT and now its gone!

well, let's see ... where to begin ...

I guess it all begins somewhere in the 80s, having seen "Smokey and the Bandit" on TV ... I recon it must be the only tape in my VHS library that I watched more than 2 or three times (dozen or two or more ... dunno). Sure, apart from the movie being pretty funny, it's hard to beat a good ol' second gen Firebird with the screaming chicken on the hood, kicking dust on the road, roar of the 6.6L out of the tailpipes, oversteer in every corner, ...

Come and go a couple years, occasionally seeing an F-Body or two on base, and dreeming of having one some day ... followed by "Knight Rider" on TV. OK, the 2nd gen looked better to me, but still, a cool car ...

When Hersfeld still had US military, they had Camaros rarely ... checked into the price and stuff once, but with the exchange rate (and the additional tax/customs coming on it), the cars were not really affordable for a college student ... ;) Much less with the fuel usage ...

In 93 I was on leave in Orlando for two weeks. Drove by some Chevy and Pontiac dealers and took a look at the then-new 4th gens, loved the looks especially of the Firebird, but also liked the Camaro (especially as it was quite a bit cheaper than the 'bird); brought home that year's add booklets (which I might have flying around somewhere). I think I drove a Renault R9 at the time, so you can probably see the difference in the two ;)

Still, more or less just some nice dream, without too much hope of actually driving one any time soon.

Really no time soon. Took until February of 2001, most of which I didn't even think about getting one, as the gas-guzzling monsters weren't too readily available in Germany, and the prices at Opel were outragious (I think I checked into it once after seeing it on post for something like $25 grand, think that was earlier though), and they wanted well over 60kDM at Opel ...

Anyway, in February I saw an add in the local newspaper from the Opel dealer, offering a 98 V6 Convertible ... went down, looked at it, and was sold ... checked the Internet and a couple folks, asking about what to watch out for and how much the car was worth. The test drive was cool, even though I did notice that the handling wasn't too good, or at least completely different from what I was used to ... kind'a funny driving through town and noticing heads turning whereever you drive ...

Final test was trying to get in the garage, a close fit ;) With that out of the way, I finalized the deal ... I think I took barely over a week from first sight to buying ...

Made a good deal (I recon, mostly at least) by trading in a Renault Megane ... though I would have prefered a Firebird, and/or a V8, I'm still pretty satisifed with the car ... great looks, good cruiser ... and at the moment the more practical car I have
