Has anyone gone through the hassle of transfering a US Spec, military registered vehicle over to non US ID card holder? I found a link and info about an AE Form 550-175B also on the zoll site at http://www.zoll.de/b0_zoll_und_steuern/ ... index.html it talks about a 22% tax.
Is that right or am I missing something?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Shawn

Actually, it's more in total ... it's the 19% VAT/MWSt, plus (I think it was) 12% import tax/customs. Not much of a problem, though, just need to stick to the procedings (US owner has to get the appropriate form & permit, you both go the customs office with form(s), the bill of sale, enough money to pay the taxes/customs, and - most importantly - the car, as they will need to check the VIN). You will receive a customs bill, plus an "Unbedenklichkeitsbescheinigung", which you will need when registering the car in Germany ...
P.S. - the customs is higher for trucks/pickups ...

What about inspections? Is that required before transfering or only when registering? Does it have to be by inspectors on military post, off post or both?

Inspection is not required for the sale/customs ... but to register it in Germany, you will need a TÜV inspection, plus possibly several modifications ... what kind of car are you planing on getting?

I'm considering selling my 2000 Camaro & buying a used bike (BMW)before I leave back to US. I still have my older two Camaro's (87, Z28 305 & 88 RS 383-detroked 400ci) waiting for me. Just not sure I want to part with it yet or if it's worth the hassle to sell it over here.

I also bought a military registered car and it was even possible to get all the crap done on one day, getting the permit from the military (10min) and pay customs/tax (5h). Getting that thing through TÜV is a different story, but that's not your problem then
Oh, and it's "only" 10% customs, but everything depends on the price you put on the "official" act of sale... but you have to pay cash, btw.
And in my case the customs guy "checked" the VIN from a 100meter distance through the window of his office

By only, do you mean in addition to the 19% tax? So in total is it price+19%VAT+10%customs=total cost for buyer?
If I advertise on autoscout24.de or mobile.de should I include it in the total price?

No, i meant it's only 10% not 12%.
And it think it´s (price + 10% customs) + 19%VAT which adds up to 30,9% on top of the price. I would advertise with your "normal" price and add that tax/customs have to be paid by the buyer, otherwise it gets to complicated.
BTW if you want to sell your BMW bike you only have to pay VAT, because if i remember right customs is there to protect the market, but that bike is also available in germany (and is a german product)... i thought i read something somewhere, i'm not sure though.

Okay. Thanks Chris & Garry. Doesn't seem too bad for me. Little rough on buyer.
How about opinions on price....
Almost everything about the car is on the build sheet on its msn space (see link below) The only things missing are all new belts & hoses, new brake pads (EBC Yellow stuff), slotted & dimpled rear rotors, new muffler & stainless tips), Lingenfelter rear Diff cover & support & stud kit, spare parts in garage:(used but good) heads & intake, spare AC Condensor (wife told me wrong part from repair shop), rear tires w/30% tread (kept in case of blowout)... I think the mileage is at 114K miles.
I thought I was going to be leaving car here with my wife for 15 months. Instead we're all leaving in about 5.
