Just saw this yesterday during shopping ...

Now, when the German VAT was increased to 19%, many companies either raised prices before the tax raise, in order to keep the price the same after the raise, or they reduced the amount of whatever they sold while keeping the packaging the same ...

Most of the time, the price increase or product reduction went way beyond the 16 to 19 increase ...

One prime example was Pringles, which went from 200g to 170g, a 15% reduction, which - when converted to the original amount - equals to a unit price of 1,83 instead of 1,63, so 20 cents more profit ... that's when I stopped buying them out of principle ...

Well, now yesterday I noticed they have a "new" packaging out ... proudly labeled with "more content", they increased the amount a whopping 10 grams from 170 to 180 ...

Well, that would have been surprising ...

Hadn't they also increased the price.

Wanna guess?

The regular 170g is still 1,59€.

The "new and bigger" one is 1,99€!

Converted to "old" size, that would come to 2,19€, a 37% price increase ...

Who is stupid enough to fall for that? Must be people out there ...

Is there any other planet I could go to where people aren't stupid as dirt? I need to get out of here ...

Perhaps some people don't make these kind of calculations before they buy stuff ?

What a con though - I bet Pringles aren't the only brand exploiting people this way either.

They're not, but an occasion where it's totally obvious ...

But then, listening to stuff like "Pisa Polizei" or "Dummfrager" I have no doubt that most folks (most likely younger people) don't even get the idea of comparing the prices, or aren't able to calculate the prices ... (why do you think the law was passed that the per-unit-price has to be added to the price tag?)

Guess if they still have both up this coming Friday, I might ask somebody at the store if anybody is buying the "bigger" one ...

i guess it's the same everywhere.
as long as people will fall for these tricks they will be used.

it's the same here, every now and then there is a big "sale" from a big electronics seller.
It's just that during the "special sales days" the prices are often more then the week before without the sale
The so called normal base price is suddenly increased so much that the 20% reduction is even more expensive then regular price without any "reduction"
