I called the guy at Mclure Racing tonight and got a price on the 600hp 383. The 383 is a custom build for what the consummer wants from valve covers to oil pan. I talked to him for about an hour and this is what he'll build a 383 fully forged engine Lt1 ported intake, stage 3 heads, cam of choice, 1.6 rockers, Valve springs to match cam. Pretty much everything needed to run this engine and more. Now here is were I need to think a little and I need some opinions on this one.
Do I go with option A or B

A. a 383 with 11 to 1 compression which produces 575 engine hp

b. Lower the compression so in the future I can throw a blower on it.

If I go with high compression it's a more sound engine and will be able to run high speeds. If I go with the low compression for a blower I will not be able to obtain high speeds for a great period of time without the engine over heating due to the blower but i'll get there fast 1/4 mile. What do you guys think I think option AAA

I say built 355 with 12-15psi of vortech, and a 75hp of N20 to cool the intake charge. Wont be any cheaper though. Be much faster than a stroker with or without the N20.

Either one of your choices sounds out of my price range, but a N/A stroker is the way to go. Unless you have cubic dollars, and can SC it.

Beck racing makes some real good combos too (like I've seen 'em!!) they will charge you about 11K for a turnkey package.

I guess if your gonna be a bear, be a Grizzley

In all honesty w/ a stage 3 head you won't be driving that car on a regular basis. That's too big and is strictly a race head only. Further if you go NA yeah the car will last a little longer than SC but if you drive your car now the way you do w/ that set-up? I can see you'll be going through engines w/in a yr or too and I know you don't have that kind of $$$ hell I don't even have that kind of $$$!

So maybe go stage 2 drop the compression and put a aftercooler on it and pray you don't kill it too soon.
You are hard on cars man so you are on borrowed time anyways...........:) I didn't know you could get that much hp from a 383 NA UNLESS it's a solid roller cam.
Good luck in what ever you decide and be sure to go easy on it at 1st. That's a lot of money to blow............

I thought that also about the HP rating on the engine and the compression. It does seem very high and how long it'll last over here with high speeds. I havn't given him an official go on the engine yet i'm still trying to debate supercharger or not. I want to lean towards the supercharger since I can always turn down boost. I'll talk to you later Ryan

Stay N/A less moving parts 11.1 Cr would be max on a street engine. Just remember you need to decide first the end result and build it from there. If you add a P/A later and you are not set up it could be bad news.

Whats up Ryan? I would go option A. If that short block is all forged, get some killer headss and hit it with a lot of NOS :)! Jordan Musser has a 10.6 sec? N/A Daily driver 396. Go solid roller, so what if you have to pull the covers every few thousand miles. He said his idles like a Hotcam.

Jeff

Ryan, how much was the quote for the 383? Are you not getting the LT4 heads/intake anymore? Later, Mike

is as follows a 383 11 to 1 or 8 to 1 compression depends on if I want N/a or not. This engine comes fully assembled for what I request it's a custome built engine. It's fully together from intake to valve covers to oil pan the only thing I need to do is put the coolant on it. The intake is LT1 and is ported to match the heads and the heads are ported. I talked to the guy again and they're not quit stage 3 there a little smaller but bigger than 2. The deal is pretty good for what i'm getting plus it comes dynoed and tuned for $6500.00 pocket change yeah right. The only thing I need to get is headers 1 3/4 and a few misc items.

John I talked to the guy and your right good info stage 3 is not a very streetable head. I glad you told me that before I got the engine over hear.

Good deal man! So what will be the end result? Hp & Torque? I want to do the same thing to my car but use my intake(58mm) and heads(stage2), maybe even the block. What do you guys recommend? I will have the money just need direction. How much will it cost(roughly) to have it put in? Thanks guys, Mike

Engine 11.1 CR short block 383 $3400, 396 $3800 all forged Street /Strip balanced blueprinted splayed 4 bolt block. add $600 for gaskets and labor for install. But you would have 11 sec timeslips w/stage 2 heads and intake. Traction permitted.

Bruce is right on the money. But like he said it is up to the driver to get the times. My car will be fully capable of solid 11's, based on a good driver of course:P

That is a new short block and the bonus is you would have your old short block as a back up or you could sell it to offset the cost of the stroker.
