Garry.....I'm surprised by this comment. The only real difference between a braking event and the 1/4 mile is one you stop as fast as possible the other is acellerating as fast as possible. Yes there is R/T involved and either upshifting or downshifting for both. JMHO.
As for the location, how much of the airfield does 1 on 1 have past the Auto-x area??? The area could even be put along the Auto-x course. I have ZERO problems making this happen. I really do think that it would be an event that alot pf people would want to be apart of since there are 3 different events. It's just an idea but I can make it happen with alittle help!! By looking at this post it looks like there are only 3or 4 people really interested in this, chime in with your thoughts....PLEASE.....good or bad idea????????

now after getting the ok from one side and dates for 2004, I got a letter from the other end saying that we have done serious damage to the taxiway and they want to resurface it and send me the bill...

Really???
So the damage is from October... or from which date? I mean they tell you this NOW instead of right after the event?

no, not from October, from all year. I do not know what damage they are talking about, the few little holes have been there before, there was other clubs than us racing (even quartermile), we changed the burnout area onto the concrete per request, all what is left is rubber in the start area - but is that to be considered damage? we shall see...

Squirrelina,
Are they also going to bill the other clubs for the damage????
SSZ28,
I have a 25lb bag of "Kentucky Blue Grass" grass seed for that new brake test area (LOL)
I hope this won't affect the future racing there, it is truely a decent area to go to.

I don't understand this, does Sembach and Bitburg not want to make any money???? I really don't understand. I watched an auto-x cross being held in a Wal-mart parking lot. Yes that's no BS, they said that the money was good along with the added customers! Sembach and Bitburg have the cornor market on this. Does this mean that there will be NO RACING for anybody ( all clubs)?????

Sembach doesn't have the airfield anymore - it was torn up by the end of 2002 ... Pirmasens doesn't have (or give) permissions for car-events on the airfield AFAIK ...

I even tried to get Gieb to open theirs, the community wanted to do it but nobody wanted to volunteer time and the insurance thing was giving them trouble.

...let me give you a list of possibly hidden radar traps before you do.
Don't know if you find a full mile then...
But we could close two exits I know about 3 miles apart, so we could race on the bahn and return to the start on a side road I know.
We just take the printouts from the radar trap for timeslips... they should be pretty accurat.

A 63 between mainz and kaiserslautern is another good one. a slight bend but pretty much dead straight with a 360 degrees panoramic view because the autobahn is higher than the surrounding farmland. there is one or two sections where you go 7-8 miles between exits, maybe that migh not be accurate, but I know because I almost ran out of gas on that road and I was litterally on fumes when I made it to the end and found a BP.

That's right Sven, you just have to watch out when you're going highspeed over the bridges... WIND!
