Post subject:  Just did my intake gasket!

Well it was very nice out weather wise for February in Germany, so I decided to get off my dead *ss and get some more car stuff done. I did my intake gasket. Not to bad. Took about 2 hours to tear it apart. Only took 45 minutes to put it all back together. I didn't have the Chevy fuel line tool, so I was trying to figure out how to get the fuel rail off and out off the way. I got enough clearance without taking the lines off. That was pretty much the only excitement for the whole project. Then I changed my fuel filter and did the skip shift mod thing. I also removed the intake down tube/silencer thingy. I also did the throttle body coolant by-pass thing while I had it apart. And I couldn't resist it so I ported and polished my MAF also. A pretty ruff job at this time. I just didn't have the time to grind the left overs down all the way right now. The car fired right up and seems fine. I only drove around the block real slow, never left 1st gear. I will have more to report tomorrow I guess. I also did a quicky wash job and put on the summer tires/wheels. Looks much better now, but I should warn all of you that means it will snow real soon. Sorry I just had to put the summer tires on. Man, seems like I did a lot more today, but I guess that is it. The next big project is the spark plugs. I can't say as I am looking forward to that. I checked them out today and they look like a real b*tch to get to. Sorry to ramble on about nothing, Peace. Hope to see some of you tomorrow.

Kewl! I got pretty good at yonking the intake off during my rebuild. You missed a prime time opp to block off the EGR however(unless you dont want to).

I couldnt leave well enough alone, so since my Z is in the shop, I pulled the intake off the 5.0 to do some maint. Took all of 30 min (man, the more I work on one car, the more I hate the other car!!! :) )

Oh well, Happy wrenching

BTW you may want to pull the PCM fuse (bottom left in the dash fuse panel) then put it in (about 1min) so the car can dump its parameters and start learning the new ones from the MAF porting.

Yeah, I had the battery disconnected the whole time, so the memory was fresh when I fired her up. Seems to have worked so far. No oil leaking anymore. Can't say as the ported MAF seems to have done anything. Who knows. I need to get some fresh spark plugs in that thing. Maybe next week.
