This kid crashed not to far from my house. He was driving a 2001 SS, and hit a tree doing 100mph+. He was thrown 164ft, the tranny flew 30 more feet. The salvage crews say this is the worst wreck they have ever seen. There were no salvagable parts left. The car actually ripped in half at the fire wall, and the top was seperated also. The drive train and engine all went in differant directions landing at the closest 20-25ft from the mangled chasis.

There is a part time EMT that works with me, and he did the human remains cleanup. This guy was the original headless torso.

Be careful out there.

Giving a 17 year old a 300+bhp car to drive is like giving a child a lighted firework and there's a strong argument for a ZR1 style valet button to limit the power. I know there are some out there who'll say he could have done the same in a Honda Civic but I doubt the temptation is there. Fast car, go fast. A tragic waste.

I couldn't agree with you more Lus, about giving him such a car, but the truth is, it happens every day, and with cars of all shapes, sizes and displacement!!

I believe in the Darwin theory, that sooner or later all the idiots will kill themselves...

That part that I dont like the most, is that the car completly disentegrated. I saw it, and if it wasnt for the wheels, you wouldnt be able to tell what it was. It split in 3 differant places, and shot the engine, tranny, drive shaft/rear axle in opposite directions. The seats and interior also broke loose, probably due to the car spliting at the firewall, and the roof. The guy I work with who is the EMT, said he picked up 3 differant pieces of his head, and a eye with the optic nerve still attached was hanging in a nearby tree!

Maybe they score okay in crash test, but brother, nothing in the world will save your ass in a 100+mph crash.

If they only kill themselves, it's one thing - too many times, other people get hurt or killed, too ...

You are correct, Rob, at 100(+) MPH, if you hit a fixed object, you are dead, period!

This is the reason why the goverment is trying to take V8 sports cars off the street. They say an individual doesn't need all that power for every day comuting. I can't say the kid was stupid or even wrong since 90% of us including myself cruize the autobauhn faster than that. It is definatly a tragic story that gives everyone a reality check.

I had a reality check the other day when I was in the motor pool and my PLT SGT came down and told me my wife and two kids where in an acident on the Auto bauhn. I definatly couldn't imgine for the next however many mornings waking up without seeing them. I can't even begin to describe the way that felt. On a good note there was only damage to the car and my kids and wife were only shooken up a little bit. My wife was merging from 62 on to 6 towards Saarbrucken and she got in her lane and all of a sudden another motorist lost control and went into her lane so she swerved to miss the other car and bounced off the guard rail at 70MPH. The moral of the story is you may drive fine it's the other a$$holes on the streets that you have to watch out for.
