We decided to get a new ride to function as our family car and since we really enjoyed our old Golf II and my old lady really doesn't want anything else (loves Golf II) we decided to get this sporty ride.

1989 VW GOLF II Rallye Syncro G60

1 out of 5071 made worldwide, they were hand assembled in Belgium btw.
The car has a syncro drivetrain that provides 4wd when needed and the 1758cc engine has forced induction by using the notorious G-lader.

Bought it in a town just below of Stuttgart and looking at what i've paid (3000 euro) i think it's one of the best things i've ever bought.
The previous owner has several Golf's and is a real fanatic , has great taste, and it shows :)

Took that badboy on the autobahn and man this car is on rails !
Lowering springs and aftermarket shocks and 17" rims (TUV approved)give this car a killer suspension.
This baby outhandles any car i've driven so far short of the Lancer EVO6 and the Subaru GT Turbo !!
Note, the chassis has 40 percent more welds than a normal Golf II and this makes it so extremely stiff.

It's fully loaded (with the exception of A/C, only 28 out of 5071 had A/C) and the car ooverall is in great shape !
It has 117.000 km's (72600 miles) on the odometer seems to be barely broken in.
Man, i gotta hand it to them Germans, they know how to build cars and how to maintain it :)

I'm gonna remove the G-lader next and have it rebuild, improved, and flowed just to be on the safe side, as they can become quite $$$$$$$$ when you break 'em.

I used to be really into VW performance. I've done a little research for a buddy of mine back in the states. he's got a Corrado with the G-60. I showed him this site for a rebuild. They are about the most reputable folks around.

Where's the engine??? LOL, just joking... Nice car, it is amazing what the Germans and Japs can do with small engines. I am amazed that my TT which has a 1.8 liter engine with 225 hp will do 145mph and 0-60 in 6.4 sec (Not as fast as most of the F-Bodies here but it will out handle the best of them). It's not a muscle car but it is fun none the less. I still love the sound of my GTA better than the TT.

Indeed !
It doesn't have the lowend grunt my Camaro has and it misses the sound eventhough the G-lader itself makes a cool whine, especially when the boost pressure is returned to the loader when you let go of the pedal under heavy boost.

It indeed outhandles ANY f-body easilyt but that's no surprise with it's full fletched Rallye chassis, smart 4WD and typical german stiff suspension.

I'm quite happy with it :)

Great! I love the interior, but the body isn't my cup o' tea... :)
