Just for your info:
I decided to lawsuit the guy selling the black 84 to me for following reasons:
(bid on ebay without physically looking at it - won't do again)

1. Offered as built in 86.
>>> It is a 84, first registered in Germany 86.
2. Read as having TÜV, on phone he said TÜV would be no problem, not deregistered very long (a year).
>>> Per Registration Paper deregistered since Dec 98. Which requires full TÜV with checking every detail of the car...
3. Stated (in writing on ebay!!!) engine runs if starter works.
>>> It does not. Not with a crack in the block.

Don't get me wrong, I do not go through all this because of saving a few hundred euros, but that man needs a lesson.

Meanwhile I put the car on hold - in case they will have an expert take a look at it.
So I won't sell it nor fix it nor have parts taken of it.
If I get to keep it (possible is annullment of contract also) I will fix it later on.

Since I don't want to be without a car meanwhile (not counting the Corolla) and I do not know how long this will take, I will buy another one.

That depends on what for. I am open minded right know.

The easier with the German TÜV and doing Mods (and paying tax) is a car older than 20 years > Oldtimer registration.
That is what I like to have for racing, an early 3rd gen
or a late 2nd gen is also the bodystyles I like. Another plus is the less electronics, so I may be able to learn to work on the car myself.

I also would buy me a newer one, if it is a good offer or something special. But then I will have to see that it passes TÜV and pay the high tax and insurance. Looked at 99 and 01 ones at some German Dealer but they had only V6 and so much electronic s**t which scares me... to drive to the very next expensive German shop as soon some service light comes on. (Tony is almost 2 hours away and it takes too long to get the car back) And of course I would not want to mess with any part of it to improve for racing, scared of TÜV and scared something stops running.

So right now I tend to buy me one for races and one for cruises and meets and I can not really make up my mind - I will just look around until I trip over something and say: That's it!!!

So what do you have? If I like it I'll pay the price.

I would go with a 93 LT1 you could get one for around $6000 and be able to do it all. 3rd gen does not pack the hapees without serious mods.

You got one in mind which is up for sale?
As I said, I am open minded. Want to look at it and then some inner voice will tell me: get it!

Squirrel, the problem with the "older" cars and oldtimer-zulassung is that: 20 jears are only good for the damn red 07 numbers -> You can´t drive everyday, only for meetings and maintenance... And the worst thing: You´ve got to keep track (write a log) of your trips... And the cops will pull you out every day... but you can do with your car what you like...

The real oldtimerzulassung (30 jears and up) isn´t very much better: You can do no mods. No tuning, nothing ! But it´s cheap...

"He said doin the nasty" it: I met some of you guys friday and the mildest mods of your us-cars is highly prohibited for us krauts...

I´ll get lot´s of problems for my "handcrafted" exhaust, and it is the most silent thing i´ve ever heard... They took my ´84 TA out of business a few years ago because it was toooo loud... No fun ´round here

My 5ct: If you can achieve only one car: Go with the most powerful car you can get without mods. For racing: Red 07 modded as hell...

So that gets me back to my original plan of having one about 20 years old with a 07 plate built up for races
and a second one (stock) for meets and cruises...
