Post subject: | Cam Swap ?! |
I have finally received all parts to do my cam swap, so today I called a couple of car garage´s and asked them how much the swap would cost me…. They quoted me 750 – 950 € at least !!!!!!! I´m aware that labor in germany is expensive as hell, but that seems a little high, I was under the impression I could get away for like 300 € or something like that Does anyone know a place where I could get it done without spending an arm or a leg ??? it should be somewhere in the nuremberg/graf/vilseck area if possible thanx |

Thought you were selling your car? A cam change isn't that hard but the German mechanics probably see that American iron roll in they see $$$ signs. |

Dude it will take you about a day if you have everything (gaskets/rtv/lube(s)) just put the front on stands and laugh as you save all that labor charge. Probably the most difficult thing is getting the stupid timing cover to seal up (yeah I had that problem ![]() |

I would do it yourself If I had the time I would help. But it is not that hard. |

I wish I could do it myself, but I never done anything like it and I´d be afraid to mess it up |

you got all the stuff correct. You could do it in the craft shop you do the work and ask them for assistance. |

You are correct. I am not even sure if I can help you out in there. Are you willing to do the work? |

I sure be willing to do the work, but like I said, I don´t think I have enough "know how" to do it by myself |

a cam swap, is a cam swap is a cam swap. pretty straight forward, (call myself experianced cuz I've done all of 2 ![]() after you pull the fan/radiator, just a waterpump and a timing cover to go. (oh yeah, and that pesky intake to get at the lifters) after you pull the valve covers and remove the pushrods. Do it yourself, cuz you'll be more careful and learn volumes more about your car. Spend the labor money you save on some more goodies |

Post subject: | Welcome to germany |
I told you at the bp that in germany you have to pay and pay and pay... Things are different over here... If you´d like to have it done: My favorite Werkstatt is Helmut Frank in Grub am Forst Tel 09560/981099 spezialized, knows what he does, rebuilds us-cars all the time. Ge always made me a good price and i never felt betrayed (like most times by regular GM-dealers) |

Franks US Cars / Grub am Forst?!? That´s only 10km away from here! Sometimes I have a look at his parking lot - he often has really great cars there ![]() I have no experiences with this shop, a friend of mine (vette driver) told me some bad things about it (wasn´t able to solve electronic problems)... but thats just one opinion - you are happy with this Werkstatt? (Until now I could do everything myself, but you never know... ![]() |

The guy is a bit rough, but very fair. Very good at engine- and oldie-stuff. Watched him rebuilding a great ´68? Camaro Conv... Repaired my steering (complete rebuild-was never greased) - good price, no probs, in time Friends told only good things |
