Not from there, but I went to college about an hour north. Greek Town is a great place to go out to dinner. Royal Oak has a lot of Restaurants and Bars that you can sit along the street and watch all the cars. It's like a car show that keeps going by to keep you entertained. Some dates don't appreciate it because you don't pay enough attention to them (blah,blah,blah...) One thing not to do is go through any downtown neighborhoods at night.
Sorry my brains not working tonight I'll write you some more stuff later.

First of all, where will you be staying (what part of town), and will you have a car? We lived just north of Detroit for almost 5 years.

One recommendation, be careful where you go. Some parts of Detroit are very rough, as in dangerous. If you keep aware of your surroundings and don't go where you feel uncomfortable, you will probably be OK.

If you are in the downtown area, Greektown is pretty safe and is nice. There are now some casinos on the riverfront that weren't there when we left in 1998. If you want to, you can go over to Windsor Ontario Canada. There is a casino over there also and their currency exchange rate is great for us. There are also some nice restaurants and clubs over there.

If you can tell us what part of town you are going to, I might be able to help you out more. Also, how much time will you have free.

Jerry

I am from Detroit! Well like most people said, stay away from the neighborhoods at night. Avoid Michigan avenue on the east side, unless you want hookers or dope or somthing of that nature. I reccomend you go to Windsor and hit the bars up there. Its right over the bridge/tunnel and Canadian women are easy to pick up, right Jerry? lol! Their money isnt worth as much as ours, so the US dollar will go further. Also try to catch a Red Wings game at the Joe Louis Arena. Also there is the Henry Ford museum in Dearborn, lots to see not just cars either. But let us know what part you are going to and we will be of further assistance.

Thanks for the advice guys.
The conference I'm going to attend is in the Cobo center. So I asked my travelagent to book me a hotel somewhere in the neighbourhoodof CoBo, I don't know yet which hotel it' s going to be. I'll only be there short and will rent a car.
My conference is 29 and 30 th of april. I plan to arrive the 26 th, rent a car, drive to BowlingGreen, visit the NCM, drive back to Detroit the 28 th. So I'll only have the nights of the 28 th, 29 th and 30th als free time.
I thought of visiting an american football game, but don't know if that's possible at weeknights?

I'll fly back home the 1st of may.

American football will not be going on at that time of year.

However, I have been to several conferences at the COBO center...including the North American International Auto Show!!!!!

That ROCKED!!!!!

Anyway, I would also suggest Greek Town. There is a wonderful Greek Restaurant there, but I cant remember the name. Its only a few blocks walk from the COBO Center. We stayed at the Best Western on one of my trips there. There is also a little sports bar directly across the street from COBO that I enjoyed several times. Lots of Red Wings stuff there, and if someone offers you RED WINGS Tickets...TAKE THEM!!!! One idiot in our group turned them down...and those are VERY HARD to come by right now.

Good luck and I will try to think of the names of those places. Wish I could go back.

Patrick

The COBO center is right downtown. I don't know if I would walk to Greektown or not, personally. Football and Hockey will be out of season so no sports. I would recommend Greektown one night and Windsor one night. There is also a Cajun restaurant in Greektown that I liked, even though it wasn't like real Cajun food in Louisiana. The other night, you may want to hit the casinos in either Detroit or Windsor. Other than that, no real suggestions in the downtown area.

Jeff, I hope a certain couple of Canadian girls don't see your post. You will be in TROUBLE. LOL

The Cajun place is really great!!! I say that having grown up around Cajuns and Cajun cooking all my life. I was greatly impressed by it!!!!

That is a MUST SEE...even for lunch...but nights are generally better.

Yes, Fishbones is the place...on the same block is the best Greek Restaurant I have ever been to!!!!

COBO sucks as far as food goes though. The best place in there was the Baskin Robbins. I hated the other food...grossly over priced and under taste standards....but thats what they are there for....just to make lots of money.

Fishbone's is the one I was talking about, I just couldn't remember the name. It is really pretty good, even though it is not what I would call real Cajun food. The real stuff is very hard to find other than in Louisiana. It is as good as I have ever found outside of Louisiana though. I would recommend it definitely.

Patrick, where did you grow up? In Louisiana?
