I'm 43 and up until last year, I'd only been abroad once (too busy spending my money on cars) and that was only to Amsterdam.

I got the travel bug last year and went to Lanzarote. A month later, I was off to Almeria in Southern Spain. Now I'm off to Fuerteventura for 7 days.
The last two holidays I bought off an internet auction site and they are incredibly cheap.

The 7 days in Almeria was a paltry £98 bid for TWO air tickets and 7 days self-catering accommodation (which was great). Had to pay £34 airport taxes, £29 travel insurance and £30 for transfers to and from the resort but it was still as cheap as chips.

Hire of a mighty Citroen Saxo 1.5 diesel cost 80 Euros for 3 days and we put 1000 miles on it going to Granada, all over the beautiful Sierra Nevadas (thick snow to desert in under 30 miles) and all round the Cabot de Nijar natural park. It would have cost me more to spend a week at home.

The Lanzarote trip was pre-booked and cost over £500 but the auction site halves that. Incidentally, I saw a pewter Z28 and a red C4 Corvette in Lanzarote and a red C4 in Spain (albeit a bit ropey). One of the cars you can hire in Lanzarote for about 190 Euros is a Corvette (C5 on the picture).

Anyone recommend anywhere?

Thats pretty amazing!!!!

I love the travel opportunities I will have here in Europe. I have been out of the US a few times...once to Taiwan and Mexico, and a few trips to Canada. I am looking forward to trips to Germany, France, Netherlands, and of course Britain. I should be in Britain during the end of May/first of June time frame.

One of the perks of this is being a musician in the army...so I get to do all this and someone else foots the bill!!!!! I will do a lot of travel on my own once I get settled in here, but am having fun already.

Another good site I have found is based in Belgium, but if you can get here to start a trip check out http://www.Connections.be

This site has some AMAZING deals on whatever you want to do. You may incur some of the travel taxes, but the trips are cheap and can include hotel accomodations or however you arrange it.

Thanks for the info. For those prices, it still might be worth it.
