Post subject:  Why I hate dealers (rant)
I have this tapping coming from my engine. It gets louder when it's hot but has always been there to some degree. It sounds like a tappet but it's very difficult to say. So I book it into the Chevy dealer 40 miles away and what the hell, let's get a few things sorted out too, like changing the brake fluid, adjusting the handbrake and changing the rear diff oil - you know, if you gotta drive 40 miles, make it worthwhile.

So their result?

Tapping from engine - no fault found (are they deaf???)
Change brake fluid - £35 (reasonable)
Adjust/Clean handbrake - £114 (whaaaat?????)
Rear diff oil change - £145.70 (WTF???)
(3 x Lubricant @ 28.11 and 1 x "oil" (additive I presume) @ 7.18)

Total bill £295..................never again.

Whew, and i thought Germany is expensive...

Just a guess but the tapping might be an exhaust leak. I had one before and it sounded like a tapping.

Sounds like an AAFES garage. (Where the desperate or the unknowing military people take their cars.)
