My buddy just took his '81 Jeep to have it shipped. With it being an '81 we kinda figured that the straight pipe exhaust won't matter. Boy were we wrong as two boys f@@***!
Now I've been in Germany for 5 years and never had a reason to ship a car until now (so this could be old news):
1) You MUST have an EPA sticker under the hood. If not, you have to notify the manufacturer and have them send you a memo of why not.
2) You MUST have the DOT sticker in your car [(must I've seen are in the driver side door jam, except my van which is on the opposite side)(If not, same rule applies as above)]
3) If your EPA sticker says you have cataliyc converotr(s), then you better have a cat!
Why do they care? Its not like they have to deal with the car ever again, unless you come back.

Hmmm... lol This could pose a problem should I decide to bring my car. I've not had cats on it forever, as there are no emissions regulations up here where I live. Istill have the stock cats, but as of tomorrow, they'll be useless when I throw the longtubes with off-road y-pipe on the car.

Oh it gets worse. Say you own a SS. They won't ship the car back because according to them that's not a factory hood. Save yourself the heartache and ship it privately. It'll cost ya 800 bucks but you won't have to worry about none of the above problems in the 1st thread.
Now just image my hood isn't stk nor is the rest of my car. EPA sticker LOL....that's a good one since my car didn't come w/ one in the 1st place.

It really has a lot to do with the liability stuff- The people making those rules are basing stuff out of "politics" and without actual knowledge of the vehicle itself.
but if you have or had any one of those stickers in your car you really should not tamper with those.

I would just ship it privately..... I have done it before..... your baby is worth it...... back in the late 90's I had a race/ sportbike fly freight in a United Airlines 747 jumbo jet......for a few grand.
crazy I may be but she is worth it.

they should not because your vehicle is considered a classic automobile, however, a letter from the manufacturer if possible would not hurt.

?????'s get in touch with your nearest shipping agency, or pick up a
" importing or exporting a car" handout at your nearest customs office, or go to

Cats: there is a couple of easies:
1) Hollow out your old one
2) Cut your old one(s) in half and weld them around your pipes to give the cat look
DOT and EPA stickers:
Go to wal mart or your local PX and buy sticker paper for your printer, go online download your desired sticker, click print and bingo- you got yourself some stickers. It worked on that jeep and a '97 Z71.

Also, if you ship to Charelston,SC they want you to have the title to the car before you can pick up your car. So, if you have a lein, you'll have trouble.

I have a sticker stating that the vehicle was modified by SLP and that the hood was one of the items changed. Now who is the one saying all of this crap? They won't ship it...Who cares if the hood is factory or not?
I like this one: "2) Cut your old one(s) in half and weld them around your pipes to give the cat look" That's what everyone needs to do.
