Just arrived back home from the Grand Nationals in Hockenheim.
I did not plan to go, but since I got invided by the organizer and also
got about two dozen phonecalls of people asking where I am at...
however, I could not sleep on Saturday anyway so I cralwed out the bed into the shower into the car and went.
(should mention here that for unexpected reasons I did not get any sleep Friday night - normally I am not that sleepy)
I had a blast. Have not seen that many Hot Rods, Low Riders and wannabees at one place before. And on some I was not sure if the eye-candy was the car or the owner... *lol*
The 'show' was the round-track cruising on Saturday night with cars all makes and models, some putting a more or less good 'show' on in front of the tribunes.
My dauhghter liked the bungee-jumping trampolin, I almost bought that thing for the number of Jumps she did.
The place - not too big - was so jammed that on Saturday afternoon for a while they did not let anybody in anymore.
The drag strip - most of the 25 to 30 cars are running in Bitburg on a regular basis - was 500 feet long, and very narrow. Both lanes together about as wide as one lane we are used to. Concrete Blocks left and right with spectators right behind or on top. One wrong move and you been in the concrete or on the other side. Luckily the two instances I know went without any damage.
But that was the only thing safety wise I'd say could improve. Make the track wider and get the spectators further away.
Everything else I'd say was a good show, crowed, very crowded but fun.
that's why I ended up staying overnight... trying to sleep another night in the car...

Its good that you enjoyed it. I wish I went now. I figured that it would be nothing special. You had to prove me wrong.
Well, there's always Bitburg next month! Look for me. I'll be the one in the 20 sec Jetta.
