Today I got the 'yes' for some of my requested Race Days for 2004,
so one event per month from April through October is for sure.

What exactly are "Race Days"? I'll be around for at least one... would it be worth attending?

Squirrelina,
I wanted to ask this question earlier this season but was on vacation to the big sand box. Since I've been here in Germany racing at the OSL and 1on1 events there is 1/4mile and auto-X events only. What about coming up with a third event that has 1/4 mile, auto-x, and a 3rd event like 0 to 100 to 0mph (or something along those lines) where so many points per event are awarded and after 3 events the winner is declared "King of the Hill". This might bring more competitors in and make the events more competitive. Just a suggestion.

I agree, this sounds interesting.
The question I am thinking about right now: where do I set up the additional track which is needed - would I have to drop the quartermile?
And how do we time this? because every car needs a different distance to reach the 100 (some may never...) and to slow down to a complete stop.
So we couldn't use a laser at any fix point.
If we just mark one speed trap and measure the reached speed... and from there slow down, it would be unfair to those who reached the higher speed, they need a longer way...
Then some may just lock the brakes... lots of bald tire production and cars breaking out?
Any ideas how do handle this all in a controllable way?

Such a contest would - apart from being hard to measure objectively - not be too much different from the results as a heads-up quartermile run, apart from testing the car's brakes ... cars that are fast in the quartermile will reach the 100k quickly, and will probably have good brakes to get down again ... also, there would probably have to be some kind of handicap rule to enable slower cars to have a chance against the high power cars ...
Other suggestion instead of a 0-100-0 contest: a skill contest ... like a small obstacle course with things as backing up or driving towards a cone as close as possible without hitting it. Or parking between two cones ...

Are you using IExploder? Mozilla usually buffers the text entry, so you could always go back and copy the stuff you typed to an editor or similar ...

Just what we need, more competitors.. Just joking. That would be great, but what we really need is more fbodies, me included.. Hopefully I won't break the Z again... I look forward to spending some of my last year in Germany at these events.

OK, let me try this again. I was thinking of a total car concept i.e. acceleration (1/4 mile), handling (auto-x), & braking. With three events, award max of 100 pts for first, 90 for second, 80 pts for 3rd and so on per event. Each car gets 3 runs per event. Take the best 2 runs (for each car) add them together and award points for the respective positions.
Example:
Code: Event #1; ¼ mile car#1 car# 2 car# 3 1st run 13.00sec 13.25 sec 13.75 sec (throw out) 2nd run 13.00 13.25 13.25 3rd run 13.25(throw out) 13.50 (throw out)13.75 total 26.00sec 26.50sec 27.00sec Points 100 90 80
Event #2 Auto-X car#1 car# 2 car# 3 1st run 75 sec(throw out) 70sec 76sec(throw out) 2nd run 74sec 73sec(throw out) 74sec 3rd run 73sec 72sec 75sec total 147sec 142sec 149sec points 90 100 80
Event #3 Braking from 100KPH to 0 KPH (Total distance in feet) car#1 car# 2 car# 3 1st run 120ft(throw out) 115ft 100ft 2nd run 119ft 116ft(throw out) 101ft 3rd run 118ft 115ft 101ft(throw out) total 237ft 130ft 201ft points 80 90 100
Total pts 270 280 260
WINNER “King of the Hillâ€

Hm ... well, apart from the issue of tire-wear (especially for cars w/o ABS!) ... the "skill" required for flooring the brakes doesn't really qualify for a "contest" IMHO ... it will just reflect the quality and physical specs of you car, and possibly double as a test to see whether it's time to replace the pads or disc ...

As far as wearing tires out; well, if you do John Force style burnouts, that's your problem. If you don't know how to leave the line without spinning the tires the whole track, that's your problem. If you don't know how to stop quickly without locking them up, that's your problem. This is where the skill comes into play. Granted, those with a.b.s. might seem to have an advantage, however, professional drivers get the best braking times with the a.b.s. disabled. This is just more driving skill to work on. You could "market" this as having driver's learn how to "panic" stop without endangering themselves or others... I feel that this is a good way of more people knowing what the limits of their car (and their skills) are in a safe environment. That and the fact that it'll be lots of fun!
For the braking, we could have one of those "radar" trailers that the MPs have to measure speed. When the car reaches a set point (after maintaining 100km), they begin braking. When the car stops, the official who ensured that the car was going 100km before they started braking at the correct marker, will then measure the distance. Might be easier if the pavement was marked in 10' (or 1 meter) increments...
I'd go for this...I'd even try it in the '57. But only if Santa gives me that IFS setup I've been wanting.

at the autoX there maybe would be enough place for the brake test,
but WHERE do you want to gain the speed???
the area in between is to dangerous, since there is traffic.
we need to find another place.
and I volunteer firechicken and SSZ28 to handle and control this.

You sure you want me doing this? I'll be doing it on that large grassy area. It takes more skill to stop on grass... Oh yeah, it'll get hosed down first to make sure that the cars slide better This is to protect the tires.
Finding a suitable location will be difficult as you'll need around 300 meters. We could do it here on Giebelstadt. The new runway is just about done. Then we could add a 4th competion, seeing which car gets the best gas mileage from driving back and forth to Gieb. It's only 3.5 hours one way...
