Well, my car is running after having the built 383 put in, but the tranny is on it's way out. I was going to get it rebuilt before it got over here, but I can't wait anymore. I have been without the BeaSSt for to long. The tranny works, just slips. The parents are going to trailor it to Dallas and ship it out for me. Shouldn't put more than 10 miles on it. I just wanted to check if anyplace here can rebuild it with confidence. I was offered assistance in rebuilding it myself by a member of this board, but I really hate troubling people. Let me know if you can recommend someone. Thanks for your help, Maverick<----misses his ride. |

You can check with the guys John and I took our cars to. They aren't the fastest, but they do quality work, and back it up 100%- Just ask John. ![]() |

Thought you were gonna put a 6spd in that thing. What happened? I don't know of any other places that will do it w/ competence other than Dieter but I'm sure there is some place else that does it as well. I'll ask a friend of mine and get back w/ you. |

The TH350 out of my '79 was at a german place near Mannheim, can't say if they do those newer transmissions, or about the quality ... didn't Bruce have his T56 at a german place? Maybe they do the automatic, too ... |

personally I would have it done in the States before shipping if the car is still there - saving trouble and propably money, think about the conversion rate! besides anything saying 'America' is more expensive in europe anyhow. |

Warning. There is a place in Heidelberg that says they can do quality work. It seems that all they do is take it apart, clean it, replace seals and paint the housing to make it look new without any leaks. Hopefully your "hard parts" are flawless and don't need to be replaced. I had some soldiers when I was stationed down there go to this place only to have their tranny (4l60-e) fail after a short while. One of them didn't shift right and he was told that it was supposed to shift that quickly. Not hard shifts, but shifting into 4th by 30mph! ![]() I know, not what you want to hear, just want you to be warned ahead of time. I'm sure that there is a decent place around here. BTW, a German friend of mine paid 3,000+ eur last year to have his th700 in his suburban rebuilt by Geiger near Munchen. There were no problems with that rebuild. That tranny was cooked and they made it better than new, but for a price... |

Sorry I haven't posted here for a while. I have been bowling the big tournament at Volgwie(sp?) and haven't had a chance to go to work to check the internet. Got my DSL at the house hooked up now! ![]() Anyways, I have had no luck finding a T56 over here. Wish I could. I am having withdrawls, and missing the ride pretty bad. The 39hp SEAT ain't cutting it anymore. JackZ28, Where's this place you speak of? Thanks for the advise all. I am just checking all options as of now. Parents are trying to find a place to do in in BFE Oklahoma, but they are having no luck finding someone that can even think about touching it until after the new year. Oh well, might have to wait. Thanks folks, and if any of you are in the neighberhood, be sure to look me up for a free cold one. Mav |

Do you know where Sembach is? Take A6 towards Mannheim, and get off at the Kaiserslautern Ost/MAINZ exit. This will put you on B40 towards Sembach.. Right as you get into the town of Mehlingen, it is off to the right. There are tons of American cars/trucks in there. You can't really miss it. You should see my car outside if you go soon. ![]() |

Yeah, I know the place. Saw it once. Not sure I could find it again, but guess I need to try. Anyone I should talk to in person? Thank very much by the way. Mav |

Talk to Dieter. He's pretty moody sometimes, but if you catch him at the wrong time, just don't pay attention to his attitude. He's a good guy! |

OK, I went and talked to Dieter about rebuillding my tranny when the car gets here. He seems like an alright guy. Lots of goodies laying around his shop too! Price seems in line with what I expected, so good news there. Hope he stands behind his work. Thanks again for you help, I owe you all a beer. Mav |

Is the transmission from the 3,8 V6 1999 Modell the same like yours? I have a transmission from my camaro, it has run about 28000 mls. Is this something for you? Jens |

jens, no the tranny have some differences. Not much, but a few. Jack, He quoted me around $500 for parts, and $800 for labor. Not sure what parts, but I can get the best of the best of the best from my friends Seth and Sam at Cmotorsports.com for around $500. I told Dieter that I would just require labor. I did a GP on the impalassforum for Edgeracing converters, and will be upgrading from stock to a Street Edge 3200 stall. so far this deal appears to be about $1000 less than what I was expecting. But you never no until the final product. Do you know if he stands behind his work? Thanks, Mav |

Rampage, don't quote me on this, but the bell housing was different between the LT1 and LS1 years. so the 97 to 98 year splits changed. But, and it is a big but, I am not sure the V6 uses the same bell housing as the LS1. Do a search on camaroz28.com and you might find something. Jack, thanks a bunch, I now feel at ease with this decisison. Cheers. Mav |

@Rampage the reason, why i have the transmission is, that i swap to LS1 with manuel Transmission. So i have the 3,8 engine and the automatic transmission for sell. I know you from last year in "Dasing". I think, you have asked me, if my Camaro Convertible is an Z28 or a V6. Because in Dasing i have had the 245 wheels and "Z28" on the Fenders. Do you remember? I don´t know if the transmission will fit in your car. Jens |
