Top Gear just had some shots of the GT40 ... boy, I'm jealous ... can somebody give me 150grand to buy one???
Also, they ran the Pagani "Zonda" ... 7.3liter Mercedes V12 mid engine ... forget about your LS1's ... when you hear one of those babies ... 550hp in an almost all carbon fiber car ...200mph top speed - in 4th gear! And a bargain at 360kpounds
... and they faced that car against the new Lamborghini ... 6.2L V12 w/ 570hp (though slightly heavier than the Zonda) 160kpounds
... and the Lambo didn't stand a chance against the Zonda in acceleration ...

P.S. - still can't get over how they treat the cars in that show. German car shows just put the cars on the road, maybe do an accel/brake test, or maybe even run it through a road course ... but the cars really take a beatin' with that crazy brit ...

At least they do "real world" testing. Who is going to spend that much $$$ just to cruise around without "getting on it" and just beat on it every now and then?

p.s. I would rather have the $$$ and build a couple of Camaros that can out-run/handle/brake them and still have some gas money left over. Then again, if I had that much money to throw around, who knows???

I think you'd need a h@ll of a lot of money to get a Camaro to outrun that Zonda ... they didn't say what it weighs, but it's a freakin' race car, not a sports car anymore ...

Oh yeah, and it also replaced the McLaren F1 as the most powerful production car in the world. 650HP from the factory!

Just checked the specs ... that car has a weight/hp ratio of 2,25kg per HP ... approx. 2500 pounds ... (hm ... so if I put the AMG engine in my Toyota, it should have about the same speed ....)

BTW, that Zonda does a 7.44min lap on the N'ring! 8)
The new Porsche GT does a 7.30min lap under dry conditions!

(For comparision: A stock BMW M3 needs 8.22min!)

sounds right - they said the Zonda wasn't as good in the curves, but faster on the straights compared to the Lambo ...

As a followup to the Zonda test, they ran a build-yourself around the track ... the "XTR" from a small british company ... you get the kit for some 26k€ ... some tech data - about 400kg (!), with a 1.3L (!) engine they took from (drummroll) a Hayabusa ... can you say 170 hp, revving like crazy? That with a body looking like a Formula car ... (except with two seats ...)
I'll try to find some info on it on the net ...
Anyway, with this David-vs-Goliath, the track test they did brought the David up on top, beating the multiple-priced Zonda slightly (like, about 1 second)

Also, they had a gig on "Grannies doing Donuts" ... put some 70some and 80 year old women in an S2000 and tought them how to do donuts ... interesting sight :)

Hm ... that was easy ... Westfield produces it ...

Also, the kit itself starts at ~10k€, plus the motor ... so it's actually pretty cheap ... and they have other kits that you can equip with many standard engines ...

actually Garry ,what they used to set the ring record with is a turboed busa motor, around 350 ps . so it has an extremely good horsepower per tonne rating.

Did you see the test on the Koenigsegg, Garry? The Zonda used to be their pick as the fastest car, but when Clarkson drove it, it was like 4 mph quicker on their track.. He was absolutely ecstatic about driving it.

Just got that one off the net --- yes, he ran 174mph instead of 170 with the Zonda, but also he had to brake hard to not go beyond the track ;)
But then, the Zonda was quicker on the round course ... by .1 second ... ;)
