Can anyone tell me anything about the new 2004 mustang mach 1? Theres a buddy of mine who just ordered his mach 1 and he swears up and down that he can run a faster 1/4 mile then my Z28. All I know is that when I raced a 1998 cobra I beat him easy. The 98 cobra and 2004 mach 1 push the same horsepower but he says that its a totaly diffrent engine. Is it smart to run this guy coming up in bitburg? Who am I kidding, Im going to race him anyways. |

He might be confusing it with the 2005 Mustang coming out. Go ahead and race him, just make sure you can "hook up" so you can really spank him. |

The Mach 1s have an estimated 300HP, so we'll just let the actions speak for themselves. I'm sure Rob will chime in soon. He tends to smell these posts. He is a plethora of knowledge, though, when it comes to these things, so his views should be highly regarded. |

Here is how to get him to reply: ![]() All Mustangs are a waste of metal and are only good for beginning drivers as they need something slow so they don't kill themselves. ![]() |

The Mach one is estimated at 305 horses. And what are you running a 89 Camaro? If so I will put my money on the Mach one I drove one not to long ago and they are Ballsy. It also has a ram air (functional) hood. Not trying to knock your car but you better have a bad ass 89 or you will get killed. Oh they also come stock with 3:55 gears. What kind of time slips are you posting anyway? I believe a stock Mach runs 13s. |

If you both know how to drive, you should take him, especially if you have any mods.. It won't be a slaughter though, either way.. Mike, he has a 2002 Z28.. |

I own a 2002 Camaro Z28. Were pushing about the same horsepower but I found out that his mustang is supposed to run 13.5 and the best They say I can run is 13.8. I guess I better find a couple mods by april. |

13.8??? Car and Driver got a 13.6x @106mph out of the then new SS in '96. You should be able to do better than that, especially if you got a Cat-back and sticky tires. |

For '01-02, there have been many in the low 13s. I'm talking between 13 flat and 13.5. Good luck. It will be a good race. |

THAT ONE IS GOING TO BE ALL DRIVER. If you want to win I would go practice launching and find the sweet spot |

The test I saw was a Mach 1 manual and that did the quarter in about 13.5 which is faster than my Z28 auto. However, the test said that the auto would do the quarter in about 14.2 so car for car, the Z28 is faster in auto and the Mach 1 manual maybe faster depending on how hard you thrash it and how well you can drive. The 2002 SS did 13.2 against the Mustang Cobra but getting the launch right took some practice. |
