trying to draw up some plans to build a new house and want to have a two car garage but need some ideas on how big to make the garage going to have a minivan and a f-body(as soon as I can one 8) ) in it. any ideas on how big you think I should make it dont really need any working space for the vehicles but would like a comfortable, but not overly big, walking space around both vehicles and maybe some shelf space on the walls any other ideas are appreciated

Make it tall enough for a lift ;)

I second that lift idea. 1500-2000 dollars will get a good lift.

And once you have your garage, make sure you fill it with decent cars ... like in this example:

With that color scheme, and in THAT garage its probably an '84 Shelby Charger...being the '83 1/2 (First ones) were Blue with Silver stripes, or silver with blue stripes...The rims look like from that 84 85 era for the Shelby Charger ...like most of Shelbys stuff...and what now is called racing stripes. ...Like Viper up above....with the signature Shelby color scheme - but If its in that Garage its no plain Daytona...

24'X30. That is my new minimum. Mine was a long two car. I could fit my full size bronco, a camaro, two motorcycles and still have room for a work bench, tool chest and room to work. and you could get doors open. A friend had the same size but it was built wide instead of long. He had a 3-car with two doors, one double and one single door. Either way. 24'X30' is my minumim now.

Also consider 10' walls, and 2x6" headers. This will give you a load bearing ceiling for storage/hanging things, and give you lots more room. You will thank me the next time you have to store plywood, or 2x4"s. One last thing, skylights, flourecent bulbs, and paint the walls and ceiling white. You can't have too much light when working in your garage.

Depends on the area you have. Mine was 30 long, and it worked for me. But my friends was 30 wide, and his worked out to be a 3 car garage. The space is the same, just how it is used. I think I would prefer a 3 car garage. that way I can get either car out and get the Motorcycle in and out easier.

good luck

tom
