No it's not, but I guess GM had PS in mind when they created it. I guess it's also somewhat of a safety thing too, in case my head were to have made contact with it. Everything's ok though, 'cause I duct taped it. ![]() ![]() |

Gotta love that duct tape jack. I got some in black if you want it to match your steering wheel. Just think, now you can get one of those cool, sorta-square, ricer like steering wheels. I wish I had one. |

Looks like Epoxy might work till you get a replacement. |

Probably it´s really some kind of predetermined breaking point... The steering wheel in my Beretta didn´t break, instead it broke my sternum... i would have preferred the first option. ![]() |

That steering wheel should NEVER break. It is a "safety-critical" item and I will get real snotty with GM about the issue. Don't let them fob you off about driving without powersteering or about the age of the car. I repeat: that steering wheel should NEVER break. If need be write a letter to the top man at GM stating that a steering wheel breakage might leave them open to severe liability claims if somebody get to injured and that the should check the whole production batch. I don't know GM/Lada, but I spent 12 years designing Fords and know that they will first act indifferently until you mention damages! |

That's what I was saying Chris- it's some kind of safety feature. I would have been thankful had been in your shoes (even thought I would never want to wear them), but since I didn't have an accident, it pisses me off. |

Well, you can´t wear them anyway: Size 15 ![]() How long did you drive without power steering? |

Yes but I agree: steering wheel should never break. What if you were having a serious accident because of the steering wheel broke ??? If you need a quick replacement, I do not know if the 3rd gen will fit, but I got one extra in the 87 which is for parts. |

It just might Silke. What color is it? Not that it really matters, but I'm just curious. Could you bring it to work tomorrow? |

@2slow: I guess you know what you´re talking about ![]() Do you know by accident what forces a steering wheel should be able to take (for example 3 times the expected forces under normal driving conditions etc - don´t know the correct english technical phrase), i´m just curious. |

I believe it is black. And I can not bring it to work, it is still in the 87 which is in Kirchheimbolanden... where Rick lives. I can try to call Rick but I doubt he will take it out tonight in the dark, maybe tomorrow. |

Just Like Stef said , It shouldn't break. I don't think that is a safety feature , because youhave that big AZZ air bag ready to hit you in the event of a collision. Now with it broke that would very easily stick into the rib cage . Imagine the carnage that would cause. |

That's a scary thought Roy. ![]() Silke, I understand. I was just wondering if it was out. How can I arrange getting it from you? I contacted GM via email, so hopefully they'll give me a decent reply within the next few days or so. I basically let them have it, since I'm in Germany and could have been on the 'bahn when this happened. ![]() |
