Is anybody in the club running a supercharger? I see all the mods everyone is doing but have yet to see a 'charger. Is it because of budget reasons or streetability? A lot of Mustang guys are running forced induction, just wondering. Do you have to change the whole bottom end to be able to run a blower on a LT1 or LS1?

Alot of people get away with a SC without doing any engine work, but its the old adage, "Its, not if it breaks, its when it breaks." We are kinda limited to 6psi with the pistons, and 10.5-1CR(LT1), the old 5.0 has it on us with its forged everything and 9.xCR.
For awhile, it looked like the well dressed camaro would have turbo's, but that is starting to go away also. So I guess my answer would be: The intial cost is just to great to justify it (probably looking at 5k) to get something you would be willing to rely on.

To answer your question though, no you dont have to change the bottom end, but for the LT1, you'd be smart to get forged pistons, the rods/crank are okay, and I would get the 2bolt main converted to splayed 4 bolt caps. The LS1 block is built like a brick $hit house with its 6 bolt main, but it is cursed with the same explosive pistons. I'm not sure if the LT1 is more resistant to detonation because of reverse flow cooling, but with either engine stock, you are playing with fire.

I'd have to get a new clutch, and rear, first, before I tried anything like that. If I had the money, though, I'd get the 700 HP TT setup from Incon!! ;)

Ya, the LS1's are more prone to detonation due to the lack of reverse cooling, but a little birdie told me that a new water pump is being developed to reverse cool the LS1s for FI applications.

Rob & Jack are both dead on the additional implications of FI...pistons, clutches, rearends and stock fuel systems are the major weak links.

LoL Jack...wouldn't that Stage 3 Incon set-up be nice? :-eek:

Rob, Turbo Tech in Tacoma, Wa is the main shop doing the LT1 turbo setup. They have had one on a test car for the past 3 months, but are having problems with the intercooler keeping the charge cool and some minor PCM tuning problems.
