Post subject: | Storage Suggestion |
For those of you who store your cars all winter, I suggest you add a product called Stabil to your last tank of gas when you fill it. I learned about the product when I was storing our boat for 6 months a year. It really helps keep the gas from going bad over the winter. Over a long period of time, like around 6 months or so, gas will start to gum up and form varnish. Then when you start up in the spring, all of that is in your fuel system as it goes through the pump and injectors. Stabil will almost completely eliminate that problem. You just pour it in the tank before you fill it up the last time and them let your engine run long enough to make sure it is completely through your fuel system. In the spring you just run your car like normal. It has always worked well for me and kept me from having to rebuild my carburetors almost every year. It's good stuff. One bottle will protect up to 25 gallons. |

That is a good idea. May I also make a couple of suggestions. Make sure that you cover the car especially if you plan to park the car next to a street. Not only for the salt that is thrown around also for the pesky kid or wife that think that it is cool to see the snow rolling off the car in thier hands. You know what I mean. Also you need to keep all wheels off the ground by means of jack stands. The reason is that your tires may develop flat spots for sitting for so long over the winter loosing air pressure. |

... or, if you can't jack it up (e.g. because there isn't enough room in the garage to get anything done, increase the tire pressure quite a bit ... did that last year (and again this year), and didn't notice any problems ... but then, I need new tires anyway ![]() |
