It looks like the final year of Fbody production will see a more competitive playing field.

The 2001 GT's have proven their ability to run door handle to door handle with the LT1's, and now it looks like the Cobra will finally be able to challenge the LS1's.

MM&FF just published their test of the 2001 snake, and its pretty impressive. Evan Smith ran a best of 13.34 @ 104mph bone stock on street tires. Before you start swelling your collective chests at that "slow time", you might want to consider it did this in 90 degree temps. We have all heard and read about Evan Smith driving the 98 LS1 to a 12.89 to death, but keep in mind it was 56 degrees at the time, and the Z had 5000 miles on it (in other words, it was broke in). Factor in the 34 degree differance in temps, and that .45 sec starts to shrink considerably. The main thing keeping its time down now is the IRS setup that is proving to be a real pain in the ass for drag racers. (it tends to break as frequently as our 7.5 diffs), and the Tremac tranny is just to wimpy to powershift without blowing it up.

I honestly doubt the Cobra can over power or run down any but the weakest LS1 (dyno was 276RWHP 291TQ), but its obvious that in the hands of a capable driver it could prove to be a worthy opponent.

They sound pretty good also. They need to put the 5.4 in the mustang.

I, for one, have never doubted the Cobra, or any other snake for that matter!! ;)

I'm not impressed. You still have to spend more $$ to get almost the same performance.

Maybe, but there's way more aftermarket, and the prices are probably better, too!!

Aftermarket is there for the customer. The more we want the cheaper the prices get.

me to, how fast can you afford to go I will be shooting for high 11s next spring. I would settle for low 12s without sacrificeing streetability. I got you thinking I am sure.

I hate to keep riding the car, but for the extra $$$'s you get extra car.

That same independant rear suspension that hates drag racing, is a saving grace for auto x. Not to mention that you have what is for all purposes, a hand built engine, and a interior that is put togethor in a higher order than anything the general ever did for us.

In its present incarnation it would/should get skull drug by any capable Fbody. I just think its kewl that now there is no big power disparity, and the games can continue on and be somewhat exciting and not so one sided. (at least until 2002 is over)

I also know what your thinking....."If he likes the car so much, then why doesnt he buy one?" Trust me, it has crossed my mind.

Atleast they rule the used car lots now, huh?

Ya think we will be blessed with a V6, or a pushed back to a DOHC 4cyl in 2005? Of course by that time, the new Hemi's will be kicking all the azz.

The last time Dodge commented on it, it was coming.

Basically towards the end of 2004 you should start hearing rumblings of the charger and the new motors (4ltr SC'er for Cobra) from ford.(maybe sooner for the ford)
