I recently read a report on air traffic safety and stumbled across the following lines:


According to 2004 IATA statistics, 23 out of the world's 103 accidents in Western-built jets happened in Africa.
"And remember that Africa only accounts for 4.5% global traffic," added IATA chief executive Giovanni Bisignani.
"If we add Eastern-built aircraft the figures for Africa are worse," he said but did not give exact figures.

Now you know where NOT to book your next holiday......

Yikes ... and Egypt kind'a counts as Africa, too ... :( Wonder what percentage were european-operated companies and which african ones ...

Ha ha ha ha ha, no doubt.

I flew (well I was the passenger) some local chartered aircraft when I was in Mali. After that trip I can definantly see why this would be the case.

Yeah I flew into this one country called Djbouti for a small vacation . I was gald to jump out of the plane 1200ASL.
