Some weeks ago when driving home from a day at the N'ring I managed to break my record concerning low fuel consumption -- at least when I checked it, I don't do it all the time and it makes no sense when you mix normal driving with race track driving and fill up after that. Anyway, I got 29 mpg (8,0 l/100km) driving all the way home at about 80 mph (125-130 km/h) constantly. Some time after that I read an article in our local newspaper. They had made a test with various cars driving at various consistent (!) speeds and recorded the fuel consumption. So it was NOT up to the driver. Now, here are some of the cars that need more fuel at 80 mph than I needed: Opel Zafira 1.8 9,9 l (24 mpg) Peugeot 407 SW 2.0 10,1 l (23 mpg) Mercedes SLK 200 9,2 l (26 mpg) VW Golf GT 1.4 TSI 8,7 l (27 mpg) BMW 530i touring 11,7 (20 mpg) BMW 530d touring 8,9 (26 mpg) And the car that uses exactly the same amount of fuel at that speed was: Toyota Prius 8,0 l (29 mpg) ![]() Ben |

Very Cool ![]() Where is the point in having little engines if they don´t really save gas... Like they said in TopGear... even if everybody claims the Prius saves fuel, it simply doesn´t! (It also doesn´t keep little seal babies from getting slaughtered. ![]() |

The vette is the most fuel effecient car I have ever driven (as long as you drive like a normal person and keep your foot off the floor) and the LS1 is a very clean engine. Get past all the myths and BS and the LS1 with a 6-speed transmission in an aerodynamic car is an environmentalist's dream. Not to mention pretty safe. T-1 class vette that hit a concrete wall at 100mph last weekend. Driver walked away with a mild headache. ![]() |

I'll see if I can dig up the Autoweek article where they tested - - Prius - Corvette - Jeep Commander - VW Golf TDi - Honda Insight All on a 345 mile trip on the Interstates in Michigan. The corvette came out averaging nearly 28mpg which obviously embarrassed the Commander...but came very close to embarrasing the Insight and Prius. The VW Golf came out on Top @ 49.9. Great article...can't wait for DoD for the LS2. |

My LS-1 T/A is amazing in this category. It is set up strictly for high speed cruising on the far end of the speedomter.... and it runs like a dream, and the fuel economy is absolutely great, and the 6 speed gearbox is a plus. |

Can't say anything definitive yet, still need to fill'er up again tonight, but my current overall is at 19.6mpg, and that includes some 300mi of rather fast driving AND 46 miles of Bitburg airfield driving ... go figure ![]() |

OK, here's my numbers after fueling up last night ... 203 miles, 8.15 gallons, 24.78 mpg ... (based on US gallons) ~9.5/100km ... guess without the piece of regular street in between and the stupid 100k speed limits in between, it would look even better ... |

That's good, that's the lowest I managed with Super Plus. How much does your V6 use? Ben |

Slightly more. With ~22000k driven since I bought it (and including all the quartermile & AutoX runs), I'm at 23,96mpg, though I'm missing a couple in between, so that might be just a bit closer to 23 mpg ... still not all that bad ... in comparison, I'm at 28.16 with the MR2 (about 59000k driven) ... |
