Looking for the phone# of the local opel place, I ran across an add for the Corvette Racing (oops, make that "Driving") Days ... :) They have 3-day events all over Germany where you get to drive a 'vette for an hour :)

Didn't think I'd get a chance, but ... just got a call, I'm in :D Got a date on Fri Jun 23 in Hockenheim (not on the Track though ... :( Would have been cool)

If you want to try, go here

Yeah, right, as if I'd cancel the chance of driving a 500hp C6 ... :)

Oh, and by the way, they are pitching in a free ticket or something for the Corvette Meeting on the Hocknheim Ring ... does that include free laps? :)

Hey Garry, are you sure you have that test drive in Hockenheim? Because it says so on the website but I got a mail today for my test drive on Saturday in Mannheim, not Hockenheim...?!

The website had Hockenheim on there I think, but the actual testdrive is in Mannheim ...

Glad you got in too ... got another call today, they wanted to set up a date in Kassel next week ;) (I signed up for both places) ... I declined, though I would not object to another test drive if they forced me

...guess I have to sign up too - sounds like fun. I just did not yet because I know myself too well: I probably end in ordering a vette :?
I tend to buy cars like other women buy shoes. Better to stay away from the shoe store.

Well, bad thing first ... they didn't set up an AutoX course to try out the handling :( Only did some regular street and Autobahn driving.

Plus, one h@ll of traffic all day long ... 1 1/4 hour of road closure on A67 driving there ... as well as on the piece that was part of the testdrive, couldn't get any higher than 140k ...

And they didn't let me drive the Z ... :( (they had at least one there for testdrives)

Apart from that, it was nice ... got to decide between Auto or Stick (what's there to decide?), then got a quick intro. C6 really drives good, though the test course missed some tight, fast curves to really judge it ... nice interior, and the HUD is really cool (guess that's something I need to build some time ;) ). Now I got to see when I want to order one

The instructor was nice, though he kind of blew it when he asked whether "Firehawk" was the Make of the car I had (after originally doing as if he knew what a Firehawk was!)

Got a little certificate with picture certifying that I had the guts of taking the Vette for a testdrive - heck, if I had the guts, I'd thrown the guy out and REALLY took it for a spin

I had my testdrive today and although there also was a lot of traffic I managed to get it at least up to 250km/h on the Autobahn and trying some dragrace-like starts on a 4-lane Landstrasse (there was no one behind us when I stopped to try this, of course  ).

Same here, but anyway the C6 is really quick, I mean I could feel and see (on the speedometer) that it was faster than my Z28 (well should be with more HP and less weight).

I also chose the manual transmission and although the HUD was there I always kind of forgot that is was there... (looked down on the instruments instead of just looking straight). My instructor was really cool, saying things like "Now when you take off from that red light, don't think of shifting until we are past 6000rpms!" or "I'll watch out for radar/speed cameras, you just push the pedal down."

...then take into consideration the maintenance of 3 or just one car and take a walk to your bank.
I paid off the Terrano meanwhile, 400 a month for 3 years and the rest from a long-term savings account. So the towing-truck is mine, now.
