AAFES' gas profits in Europe higher than in U.S.

Army and Air Force Exchange Service gas stations in Europe made a gross profit of 84.9 cents on each gallon of gas sold in Europe compared with 13.9 cents a gallon in the States in 2005, according to figures provided to Stars and Stripes by AAFES.

The huge difference in gross profit is a result of AAFES’ pricing policies, which are set monthly by the exchange’s military board of directors, according to Judd Anstey, an AAFES spokesman. Anstey declined a Stripes’ query for net profit figures, which would show AAFES’ total earnings from gas sales, writing in an e-mail that comparing AAFES’ profits in Europe to its profits in the U.S. is an “apples to orangesâ€

Can you say BULL$HIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What they don't tell you is about the quarterly bonus checks that are written out to the GMs and higher for profits or that the service member doesn't have a real choice where to buy fuel like they do in the states!! Hey did I tell you I have 66 days left before I'm no longer getting screwed by AAFES!!!!

My suggestion; make AAFES lower the fuel prices here to $2.00 GAL for 6 months to make it up to the Service members in Europe.

They would never do that they have a monopoly our only choice is to go on base or pay the high price off base.

Good then they can take that money and put DIESEL at all the remaining gas stations in Europe.

Before the gas drop when it was 3.05 for the cheap stuff it cost me 46 bucks to fill up. The gas dropped to 2.73 for mid grade and it still costs me 46 bucks to fill up. WTF? They're a rip off. Coupons and I'm going off base at least I know the gas isn't watered down. Phaggz........
