Quote" There will be an article in the KA on harder vehicle inspections. Vehicles are failing inspections mainly on having after market tint on windows. If your windows are factory tinted, they should pass if they are not, expect to fail. More stringent criteria is coming down, expect a lot of people to feel pain". This is from Chief Neubauer of USAFE A1. Now why wasn't something like this done from the beginning? ![]() Oh well. 12 mos and a wake-up! |

Still not right ... if they let US personnel bring their cars in the tour of their duty, the cars should still be inspected and passed after the same rules they would in the US ... (not that some of that don't need some more common sense changes) Oh well ... welcome to the land of the no-limit autobahns ... and the @**hole TÜV rules ... |

I wonder what will happen with the Syclone and the aftermarket exhaust...they don't make stock exhausts anymore and the aftermarket exhaust I have is about as quiet as they come... |

i.e. steel wool. Seems there should be an exception process - we'll see in the coming months how all this plays out. As I understand it the R32 Golfs and the SRT-4's are all failing with stock exhausts - That's not right. |

Especially when you remember that the R32s comply with the German noise laws. On the other hand we Germans have no limit at all when it comes to noise from a car which is not moving. Ben |

I rather tend to call for a dB-limit for non-motor related noise ![]() |

If you know someone who got failed in an SRT, tell them to go back. if the car has stock exhaust, they can not be failed for it. in k-town go to the inspection station and ask for the number to Tsgt Parrish |

My completely stock Suburban registered 86 Db. I cannot imagine what my Z would have been. A guy at my work with a Lightning pushed out 98 db and he has a pretty quite exhaust.....or so I thought. Just food for thought, but I was working on an IG complaint for the new rules under the basis that I PAID to have my Z shipped here under 1 set of rules and it would have definately failed under the new rules. I was hoping to at least get them to put a grandfather clause in there. I have let the push drop now that my Z is sitting in the Ramstein junk yard. ![]() |

A guy I work with has started writing official letters starting with the Superintendent over the Ramstein inspection station and is going to go up his chain from there. I personally think this was implemented very poorly. Everyone who was already here should be grandfathered, at least until their next assignment. The vehicle processing centers should not accept a car for shipment to any location unless it meets the standards for that location. Just imagine a young airman/soldier who gets orders to Germany, ships his car, and upon arrival finds out that he has to spend several hundred dollars to get it to pass inspection. You can't even just take it to your house and park it. What is even more ridiculous is that a person with a car less than 5 years old who arrived here on 29 Mar could drive his car like it is for the two years he is here and ship it home. The same person who arrived on 2 Apr with an identical car can't get it through inspection at all. That makes it even more ridiculous is that you can get your car inspected and the very next day change the exhaust, tint the windows, install spinners and no one will say anything until it is time to get another inspection, which could be two years. If the standards aren't worth enforcing, why have them at all. Dumb. |

In theory, this goes for any german car, too ... problem (for Germans at least) is, that if you are checked by the police, or get into an accident, having done any modifications that aren't covered by a general permit (ABE) or put into the papers could void your insurance, and/or get you a fine ... don't know how that would be handled for US personnel ... |

![]() that poor car, I am glad you were ok from that....That looked painful bro. BTW, with Spinners, they are pulling people over and giving tickets for those any time now, unless the vehichle is onvolved in a show, and stationary, they are not allowed at all....they are doing the same in the states |

We just got a preliminary report. Just not the official. It says that I am partially at fault. The red Opel was apparently going pretty fast (like 130 MPH) and lost control hitting the van from the side and causing it to flip. He is also at fault (obviously). My problem is that they are saying that I was in the right lane (I wasn't) and saw the flipped van too late. Then they said I moved into the BMW that was beside me. Rrrrrrrnnnnnt...wrong answer. I was in the left lane and the BMW came from the right lane cutting me off. That is when I avoided him and ended up hitting the flipped van. Guess what my awesome lawyer told me....."better tell your insurance company". WOW, thanks for being on my side. Anyhow. I am planning on meeting with him next week to discuss this report and find out more about the actual report. Both lawyers are not expecting this to be done for about a YEAR! Yeah, I am holding onto the sig atleast until I deregister it. ![]() |

Got pulled over this evening on post...Exhaust is too loud I was informed. MP was cool - but I really think he's barking up the wrong tree. My GTO is nowhere near loud. I can't wait to see what the inspection test will say...good news is I have several options available to me to resolve the issue. |
