Post subject:  New Veh Inspection Criteria Coming?

Was over at Veh Reg the other day and the guy was talking to one of the inspectors and said their new equipment had arrived and he described it as machine that shakes the vehicle at the tires...whether or not he knew how it operated correctly or not, I cannot say only that it looks like they're going to pile on another requirement without informing us in advance.

That is nothing new , it made to check out the suspension components.

some of the test stations here in holland have been using such a device for years, its just so that the tech. inspector doesn't have to use the crowbar and test if various susp. / steering components have acceptable play or too much.

i guess it's the same machine ?

I'm not convinced that it's a great idea. It's just another way to fail our cars. But, I guess it helps keep the mechanics employed so the local unemployment rate doesn't get higher. It also puts more money in the local economy. Oh well, about two years and I'll be back in the good ole US.

For worn parts in the suspension , I would hope the car would get failed. If this equipment helps them in diagnosis , then all the better. But if its like the training the mechs received with the decibel meter , well thats another story.

In contrast to dB measurements, checks (and failing) of safety-relevant features of cars shouldn't be a reason for complaints ...

I completly agree. However, I sure don't care for my care to be shaken.

Mannheim techs are still reading straight back and don't listen to people who show them in the reg they should read at 45' angle.

Now that is complete BS. I know that Ramstein & Kapaun do the same thing and test right next to the building. I am planning on bringing the reg with me so I can prove what they are doing wrong on the spot. This is such a sore spot.

I think I would rather a machine to shake my car than to have one of those bone heads taking a crowbar to my suspension. but that may be just me.
