I thought i share this, so maybe somebody else is not that dumb to fall for the same trap.

I guess most of you have much more experience with creditcards then i , and might not have had this :?

Long story short : i booked 3 hotel nights for 2 people in a huge german city.

When i arrived my girlfriend was not able to be there so i had a double room for 3 nights while i only needed a single room now.
So i asked the woman at the reception if it would be possible to change the double room into a single room so i would pay less.
She said she would look into it. So when i left i was pleasantly surprised when i only had to pay for a single room.
I paid in cash.
She said because i had been given a discount i could not get a receipt for that, i did not mind too much as i got a big discount.
But now 4 weeks later i get a bill from my creditcard for the full amount , and i have no receipt to prove i paid cash :pat:

You should still argue it with the credit card company. When you reserved the room, did you authorize them to charge the card? If not, you still should have to sign for the charge when you left. It isn't unreasonable to think someone didn't keep the receipt 4 weeks.

that might be a way to prove i did not pay with my card, because i never signed any note
i have to wait for the creditcard companys paperwork, but i will be sure to put that on it.

The hotel can't show a receipt from my creditcard that i signed to authorise taking money from the card

good point, like i said : i have too little experience with creditcard stuff, i prefer cash..

Actually if you go to your CC websute, you should be able to log on and challenge any charge on it...

I had some similar sh*t with my credit card in Scotland (not quite as dumb ;-) and challenged the issue with Visa..... no luck.
They basically dumped the "burden of proof" on me.

Now, start calling out... which city, which hotel? We don't want to end up being conned by the same place!

Also, you may want to try to contact the hotel management and raise the issue with them - if the person has been doing that to you, she may (or quite likely) have done it to other people, so if there are multiple complaints about the same scheme involving the same person, there might be a better chance than going through the credit card company ...

i send an email concerning the issue to the hotel manager.
(i need allso proof that i contacted the hotel when i file a claim, to show they did not help me)
who knows, maybe it has been done before in the past.

It was in Berlin, hotel "Alte feuerwache" http://www.hotelaltefeuerwache.de/
i believe there are over 600 hotels in berlin, so it's not very likely anybody knows it..

Stay clear of it, or only pay cash , if you dare to take a little risk

Or - get a receipt ;) (or don't let them have your CC#)

well there is a new twist to this story,
because the hotel was unable to show a CC receipt where i signed, they now say i left witout paying.
And that why there is no signature on it

Yeah sure, and 3 days later i came back with the same name, and stayed for another couple of nights.

Unf#*!!ing believable

Wow. I hope you get this straightened out soon. That is absurd.

They're charging you with additional nights now? Hopefully your credit card company will recognize that doesn't make sense, you need to keep making your arguments with them. If you can prove you were not there the additional nights, then they may be charged with credit card theft (the CC number).

Well there has been a miracle ! I got my money back with help from the cc company.
I actually got it 2 times , from the cc company and within 2 days allso from the hotel , but that didn't last very long :P

So, do you think it was an intentional scam or just a mistake?

Author:  jeejee [ Fri Oct 02, 2009 9:11 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: i have been conned by a conman (conwoman in this case)..

yeah definately intentional ..

And i wouldn't be too surprised if she still works there.

Hell, if i were hotel manager and had such a sharp looking employee whom did something wrong, there could propably be something arranged for her to keep her job, esp. now in these economical bad times
