Just read ... the '12 V6 Mustang has a speed limit of 112mph ... according to this article, someone removed the limit, and the drive shaft failed while going 135mph ... for one, I don't really see where the speed should be an issue - rather the torque, and unless they are limiting that, it could even fail at hard launches and the likes ... unless whatever bearing is holding the shaft is the actual cause of the problem ...

More than likely the critical speed of the driveline was exceeded for the size of the drive line.

What is the critical speed for our cars? 300 km/h? :)

Ben the critical speed of the driveline refers to the maximum safe rpms that the drive can sustain.
Factors that determine this are :
the length of the driveline
thickness of the metal wall
diameter of the drivline
construction of the driveline ie, steel , aluminum, carbon fiber

The critical speed of the LS1 Alu driveline is around 8500 rpms.

Hope that was a clear explanation.

Yes, thanks. :)
I was thinking of a stock LS1 Camaro, stock driveshaft etc.
So in this case, 8500 rpms driveline speed should be quite well over 300 km/h car speed.
