Scenario goes 1. car runs over bump, or thru a pothole 2. a thump, thump, thump starts to happen that is consistent with vehicle speed ie slower speed, slower rhythm of thumps 3. no wear marks anywhere, like if a exhaust was hitting DS 4. happens in all gears 1st-reverse, clutch in or out, in gear or out. Doesnt change when do 360deg turns or K turns. what do you think: 1. DS lost a weight 2. ring and pinion gone south 3. something wrong with axles 4. tranny headed for the bone heap 5. tranny mount broke (not noticeably broken or split BTW) |

Mine thumps only when I get on it and experience wheel hop... What about a bent rim? Is it a thump felt in the wheel? |

I have looked and looked... I have no exhaust rub.. The sound and feel is from the tranny area... I think poly will fix it.. |

It took me 1 year to find it I heard it on the bumps. I bet it started when you fixed your cat or installed the loud mouth. I could be wrong just trying to help? |

Mine does not do it when going over bumps, or when shocks are moving.. Mine slams the bottom of the car. I will let you feel it next time we are together. It is almost for sure the stock tranny mount..... |

Well, not only have I never seen something like this, I've never read about it either. Apparantly there was a bolt, and I mean a real, 1/4" at least bolt in the rear diff case!!! When I hit the pothole, it bounced the bolt up into the ring and pinion, and wedged it between the ring gear, and the posi unit. Literally cold welding it in place. After beating the hell out of it, cleaning out the thousands of metal particles, and 2qts of synth, its running quiet as a stocker. Another bonus, is I ran the part number on the ring gear, and it turns out the previous owner (had the car for 2 months, then $$$ problems took over) was misinformed, or silly, cuz the gears are 4.10's not 3.73's. Look out 1.7 60's!!!!! I took it out tonight and ran it from a stop thru 4 gears in anger, and everything held togethor. Looks like the track night tomarrow is back on (if this rain storm leaves:( ). I just wished I had known why it was doing this last night, then I wouldnt have order the FMS Driveshaft, SVO rear girdle, and tranny mount in a fit of rage ![]() I got to give it up for the 8.8, they are some kinda stout piece of work. Later Rob |
