I was talking to this guy today. And we were talking about a cheap solution to fix my car until I have the money to do it the rest of the way. Here goes Can you use a 383 crank without boring out the cylinders. If you can what do you need besides the crank to due it??? And if you can due it it should set the engine up as a 377 instead of a 350. I'm not sure of this one so maybe one of you will. |

that number sounds weird, kinda like your putting a mopar in! anyway, my take on this, is it wont be like installing a CAI, or changing plugs, this is pretty major work. I am not willing, or near smart enough to make a opinion on if it will work, but if it does, you still have commited yourself to 2 complete teardowns. Just seems to me, it would be easier/cheaper and more than likely if the time was added up, faster to do it the way you'd like it the first time. but heck, if they can put a 327 crank in a 289 to make a 305, I'm sure you can do a 383 crank in a a 350. |

like it should work. But your right Rob I have put a lot of time into tear downs. If this will work I'm also going to replace the pistons and just do a full rebuild. The only thing i'm trying to avoid is paying a $1000.00 or more having my block bored out. It's all about money and daycare is taking 900 a month (ouch). |

If you are going to rebuild it needs to be bored. There is a place in Trier that will do it for approx. DM 700 for 8 cylinders. The only thing I'm not sure about is other block clearancing needed. Hope this helps you out. Do you ever answer e-mails? |

Here is my .02 cents!!! It will work without boring if block is in perfect shape which I doubt due to oil pressure problems you had? =377 must have 400 crank, balancer and flywheel which will be diffrent externally balanced? And you may run into clutch clearance problems. Best deal buy the complete 400 SB and put your heads and cam induction, ignition in it all that would be required is a head gasket kit. Then you would have a 400 LT1. Or maybe some one is selling theirs in the club summer is over and alot of people are doing build ups this winter? Mix matching internal rotating engine pieces without machine work is trouble. |

first dave sorry man i've been really busy. I'll write you back tonight with your question? Bruce I agree with you that it will work. The 383 crank is actually a 400 crank yes/no. As far as piston clearance boring out your engine does nothing for the piston to head clearance. When you bore out the block your just increasing the size of the piston your using right/wrong. I know I may have to change some things in the engine but it shouldn't be to bad. Keep the good info coming I know this is somthing not to many people do but that makes me want to do it even more. |

The boring only increases the cubes a little. The real increase is created with the longer stroke which is why some clearancing is needed (even on 383). But like I said before, parts only for rotating assymbly COMPLETELY FORGED is $1975.00. No insult in intellect meant. |

first it is a 400 crank with a std block =377 2nd A .30 overbore larger pistons.=383 and there is some clearance work that needs to be done with the block and or crank. |

You should be able to clear up the clearance with new connecting rods. If you use the forged connecting rods used when building a normal 383 I should work. I'm pretty sure that the stock connecting rods will be to long and It might smack the heads. In my mind I can't see why this wouldn't work because how high the piston travels has nothing to do with the bore size on the cylinders. I know I can check how high the piston travels with silly puddy and putting the head back on but I'm trying to by the right stuff the first time. We all know how this goes!!!! the waiting for parts sucks over here!!!!!keep the info flowing need as much as I can get. |

Well not nesessarily a 350 but DM 700 for 8 cylinders. One of my friends blew up his honda and had it bored out twice and the total came to DM 700. I don't know the specifics, but I can find out. |

I sent you a e-mail on this Ryan. But a few more thoughts came to mind.... For pistons some great inexspensive ones that I have seen are TRW forged slugs. I have seen these pistons in more magazines than I can remember shake off more nitrous than you can shake a stick at.(Especially 440 mopar build up, 300Hp NOS hit, gaskets went but pistons didnt, but you know those old mopars!) Also PAW might have some good prices on 383 kits. Jeff |

Jeff i'm checking my mail I'm going to look into those pistons if they save a little money I'm all for it. Dave you said they bored out a honda 4cyl two times total of 8cyl for 700dm. I wonder if they'll charge more due to the bigger cyl walls. good info shoot me your number so I can give you a call. I have it not sure where though. |
