.030 over SRP -31cc Pistons with about 75 miles on them. Had them on my blown 383 that was just torn down again. The original builder was a moron, and I was 7000 miles away, and could do little about it. Below is the story, and the history for you.
My origianal post on Impalassforum.com about the motor.
"As some of you are aware, after spinning the 2,3 and 4 bearings on the dyno in Tulsa, I had a 383 built by a builder local to my parents. We found that due to him leaving the FPR vacuum line off(amoung other things), the FPR flooded the block with gas and the new bearings bit the dust in under 75miles. After confronting him via phone from Germany, he said he wanted it torn down by professionals to verify before he would commit to help.
Well, I'm now at the folks house and went to visit him, and guess what? He has skipped town! The shop is for sale and the bank will be auctioning off his stuff. I have yet to talk with the man running the show at the bank, but it would appear that my $2+K is down the drain."
Directly from my new builder RMCR(Rocky Mountain Competitive Research)....
"The first and worst mistake was that the oil pump body was not clearanced to clear the main stud of the rear cap. This causes the oil pump to be cocked on the rear cap which is where it supplies oil to the engine. With it cocked I would say that the engine had very little oil pressure or volume since day 1. Problem 2 was that they pressed the rear cam plug in way to far, which caused the camshaft to have no endplay and even was applying pressure to the front cam retaining plate. This caused damage between the cam gear and this plate. I don't know yet whether the timing chain is usable. Problem 1 caused lots of damage to all of the engine bearings. The crankshaft doesn't look too bad. A polish will probably clean it up. The rods are OK. The pistons have some bearing material stuck in the side of them, but will clean up nicely. The biggest problem I see is that the engine was starved for oil so badly that the center cam bearing seized to the camshaft and started spinning in the block, damaging the block. Also, when clearancing for the stroker crank, he put a hole in a water jacket, and then filled it with a bolt and putty."
As you can see my delema. New block required, and starting over. I had to sell the blower to pay for the new build, and will be going NA this time, so the low compression pistons need to go.
If anyone is interested, I can have my friend pick them up, clean them and ship them to you. These pistons are over $500 new so if your interested, shoot me a PM or and email with a resonable offer.
Thanks,
Maverick
