R4C, this may hurt but Nissan conceived the Skyline to go racing, they designed the car to go racing, they sent it racing and it won racing, to the degree where others tried to change the rules to try to get it banned.

So the question is whether Nissan are right or whether you are right in saying the 300ZX is better than a Skyline. If you're right, then Nissan clearly know nothing about cars. If they know nothing then all their cars must be rubbish. Simple train of logic. Of course, if Nissan ARE right then the I6 is a better engine than the V6 - period. Count the number of V6's designed for racing use other than in scenarios where compactness was the main criterion (ie Metro 6R4 rally car). Skylines get tuned to 1000 bhp, 300ZX's don't because the V6 is not a naturally balanced engine, it is a "packaging" design.

That's not to say you haven't got a powerful car, you clearly have, but leave it at that. It's not a better car than an equivalently modded Skyline. It doesn't handle as well as a Skyline. Oh...and I like Skylines.

Lus1fer. I never said that a 300zx's motor is better than a skyline's....I think skyline motors are overrated just like supra's, the main reason you don't see as many big hp 300zx's as supras and skylines is simply packaging. Look under the hood of a 300zx, do you see any room to put a T88? no! How about dual 2835's?...not without alot of custom work (and there are a few us. z's running 2835's now)....v design engines don't allow the use of one large turbo very easily in such a tight engine compartment. But, put the same size turbos on a skyline, supra and 300zx and see which one has the better power and torque curve. Hawk, my 300 is in the states, if you wanna drag race, forget it, I'll give you that one...but if you are talking about a roll-on, then I'm game! Just let me know when you hit stateside, cuz I'm definitely not bringing it over here. Just remember, I'm rebuilding with larger turbos this time and maybe cams too. You better turn the shot of n2o you runnin up if you gonna beat that car in a highway run....don't forget, they make n20 for 300zx's too....and I plan on sprayin minz too....so, 500+rwhp + ?? shot of n20= bad day for you! hahahaha!

ok...you runnin 11.5 on the juice or off? actually, the conversion with mph is more accurate....that program can't take into account your 60ft. time or gearing.....for example, my 200sx ran 14.2 with a 60ft. time of 2.6....now the LT-1 ran a 14.7 wiith like a 2.3 or better 60ft.....he's already three tenths ahead of me by the 60ft. mark, but yet I beat him by 0.5 at the end of the quarter! How fast would my car run with a 2.0 60ft.? (which all the manual tranny guys pull on street tires easily, and they don't have lsd like i do)....there's no way that program could give accurate numbers for the two cars....but anywayz, I plugged in your numbers and came up with 506.xx rwhp...which I have no reason to doubt....so it would be a good run between us, because my car will make ~510-520rwhp on turbos alone....haven't decided on the n20 shot size yet. What did you trap? Didn't get a chance to run mine on the strip last time.

11.52 @ 138.42 MPH Juiced
11.9X @ 123.5 N/A
1.9X 60 ft should be 1.6X

man, you must be sprayin a ton of n20 to raise your traps from 123 to 138mph....with traps that high, you should be deep in the 10's....good job though. Just gotta wait until I get mine back together and see what happens.

Hawk,

Sometime I would like to talk to you and get some ideas of what I could do to get down into streetable 10s. I have some of my own...but it seems that you are obviously very capable and knowledgeable and I would like to peruse your mind. I know you are working with an LS1, and I have a Carbed 350, but curious nonetheless.

Could I talk you into discussing your steps???

Patrick

Right now, I have the things listed in my signature....

No nitrous, and no suspension mods yet...only stock wheels (15s),

Have not been dynoed, but figure thats about 400hp according to my mechanic... not sure which cam I have, but should have that info soon.

To run 10's and be streetable with a carb, I dont think I have ever heard of that before. Your best bet would be to go EFI. Then of course a power adder.

Originally that was the plan...to go EFI but the guy doing my engine looked for months for a decent looking TPI that would just bolt right into my engine bay. After he had been through about four engines that were just worn out he found the interceptor engine. We talked about it and I figured that by this point I should just go ahead and get it done rather than waiting forever to get the TPI engine. He assured me that he could get the power out of it that I wanted while staying in my price range. To get an LS1 put in there would have been over $8000 just for the engine and I would have had less power than I will have now.

Next time I rebuild it I will do my best to go with something EFI but it will be more on my timetable than what this has turned out to be.

I dont have pics of the engine bay right now or any pics at all to show you what it looks like. He is still not finished with it. Which is getting more and more frustrating for me. I have no choice but to trust what the guy is doing. He has a good reputation around town for doing quality work, which is why I went with him and he offers a warranty on it. Of course, then I had to leave the car there and come here to Europe...so its up to my wife to get it from him.
