To stay off topic:
I totaly aggree with you guys that there are way tooooo much regulations in germany. Although the gun-regulation is ok for me...
But even in the States there is some really weird stuff going on. I think about the "smoking in public" thingy, driving around with friend who has a open bottle of beer or even drying some types of clothing (lingerine) in the backyard.
What´s great in Cali is forbidden in the midwest... USA is big with lots of different visions of what´s right.
If i would be able to choose my country it would have been USA (San Diego area) a few years ago, but right now i´m happy with my kids in german public schools and 6 weeks of vacation per year <g>.
I think i see more of the States in my vacations (was 6 times in the States now) than if i´d live in the states and have two weeks free....
But who knows ? If i get rich (next week i hope) and a green card flies by i´d grab it and move to the States...
My kids already have the right names: Jenny and Ben (you can tell our love to the States by that)

I agree you are right. Many years ago,
when I started to work for/with Americans, I always used
to wonder how strange they appeared to me...
But after 17 years just hanging with the americans on/off work and not having many german friends anymore I am kind
of in the middle of two chairs...
...and wonder about both.
gonna move to Florida latest after retirement.
in about another 28+ years.
there is no way I am getting old in this wet cold country.

Amen to that. It's been raining here now for weeks and it's very depressing. Sodden ground with a cold grey mist swirling about the mountain gave way to a small clearing where a house stood, wrapped in the shadow of night, with a solitary candle burning in the window. The door creaked open....sorry, got carried away there. Add to that the minimal hours of daylight and you have a recipe for misery. So I went on an internet holiday auction site and got myself a 7 day package deal in Southern Spain for 98 quid on 21st November. Ah, sun at last, can't wait to get there now.

One tried to eat me. But it was to slow, hehe.
Or snakes.

...ok, stay in the ocean with the sharks then.
they do not know that squirrels can swim and leave
them alone.

you had to say that, didn't ya.
last time I was swimming around the keys I was wondering why them guys never left the boat... they told me because of the sharks.
but I only did see one 4 foot long.

My wife and I went parasailing in Florida a couple years ago. When we were up there, we could see schools of sharks swimming around. It wasn't more than 100-200 meters from the people, either. It was freaky to say the least.

I don't think any wild anymal is gonna bother you when you do not disturb them.
You just should not wake up a sleeping krok in his pond, get in a turtles way, step on a snakes tail when it enjoys the sun, take the honey away from the bear, tease a shark when it is hungry or beat a bee's nest.

Why are you affraid of sharks? I remember way back when I was 13 (89) I went to the florida keys with the boy scouts. We went on a 6 day sailing trip. I saw sharks while I was in the water. Not even 10 meters or 30 feet from me in the water. They were longer than me. We were over a mile from the shore but the water was less than 5 ft deep.

I am not afraid of them. I think they are phantastic animals.
I just respect them.
BTW I am thinking about a vehicle with the skin strukture and body shape of a shark would be the optimal possible type of car, train, plane.
It is able to move very quick with minor energy. If I could build one which is also healing itself like a skin growing back that would be perfekt.
For the energy needed for moving I am thinking about a photosynthetic type of engine/heart. Combination of a plant with animal (i.e. sharks) elements and new technology.
Vehicles shark shaped need nothing but water, light and some food, accidents would not be dramatic and minor damages grow back by themselves. Very environmental friendly. Tune up by fertilizer.
