Got my hooptie on the a/bahn I got it up to 170 KPH on the flat and 180 KPH down hill. I was pretty impressed so I slowed down to look for a scuffle with VW Bug or something. I found a Trabaunt with some wild paint and got behind him he started speeding up down the hill he was smiling up to about 100 KPH and the kadett straight up started pulling hard on him I checked my mirriors to put the hurt on him and was being passed by a tour bus so I waited a couple minutes to let the bus get by. I then downshifted to 3rd to get by winding at 6000+ hit 4th and it was over pretty quick. He laughed at the uglyness of my car as I slowly passed.

Having driven the Beetle quite often, I know what it feels like to get beat by a tour bus. It is very humbling! Nice kill! :D

Hm ... you do know what kind of motor a Trabant has, don't you? Isn't it a bit sorry to even post a kill story against a Trabant??? ;) OK, had you been in a Smart, or been out for a jog, it would have been slightly noteworthy, but ... ;)
Anyway, an interesting project would be to drop a Chevy 3800 engine in one of those "bodies" ... they don't weigh anything (mostly plastic), so those 200 horses would mean some serious acceleration ... ;)

Thought the original ones are made out of a special type of Cardboard/wood mix.
They did not even have that much plastic. That is why they do not rust either.

yes, something like that, too ... either way, low weight, no rust ...

Yes, Squirellina you are right. They are quite abundant in Hungary, so I get a chance to drive one when my wife and I go to see her mom. It is pretty fun, but I would NOT want to get hit by anything in one of those. It would be nasty. I could literally punch a hole through the door.

The name of the material is Duroplast and contains resin, strengthened by wool. You were partially correct Garry.
