How long does it take to get a fire extinguisher out there???

I could have pissed on it and put the fire out faster!

I'm gonna guess it was a wet kit and the nozzle popped out. Hit the exhaust and "BOOM"!

I doubt he was running enough to burp it.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys

Dry shot hiccup , Hitting the NOS at too low an RPM or left the Traction Control On.

It'll happen with a wet kit, too. All it takes is a little backfire. Plus, EFI manifolds aren't designed to have fuel flowing through them. They have a bad tendency towards puddling of the fuel, which can result in exactly this. Sucks to be him!!

I'm with nmonty...Turbo or Supercharging are the safer ways to go Forced Induction.

That is why I am going with the NX direct port kit. No fuel puddle in the intake. I would not have ran away from my car though. I would have grabbed the extinguisher from the guy and put it out myself. At least my dash would not have gotten sprayed.

I didn't download the video again, but I'm guessing this is the yellow Z06 that got it's hood blown off.

It was a wet kit (NX if my memory is right) and the fuel pooled in the manifold

the track officials didn't want to get too close to the car while there was still fuel spraying on the fire. It sucks for the owner, but I really can't blame them. I wouldn't risk my tail for someone else's car. I'm sure it would have been a different story if they drivier was still in the car.

the Best news to come out of this was the the owner's insurance company covered the loss and he's currently looking for a new Corvette.

this is all the information I've got, and it was a TNT wet kit, not NX. he's looking for a Black C6 now.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthr ... ?t=1064804

from the guy in the car
"For those of you who don't know what happened I thought I would set the record straight, since I have read a lot of speculations and bs about what people think happened. As you all know we were at the track on Saturday and as I began to accelerate from the starting line I heard a loud POP! Then I saw my hood open and the motor on fire! I jumped out of the car and got away. The track employees then put the fire out with extinguishers. Yes, I was running a TNT Wet Nitrous kit and my insurance company knows this. I have read some speculation that this was because the window switch was bypassed and all sorts of other BS, but the fact is that it was running properly through the window switch and that I had taken every safety precaution possible when selecting my system and having it installed. I have since reported this incident to my insurance company the exact way it happened. Many people scare you about telling the truth to your insurance company when it involves the track, but I couldn't live with myself concocting some BS story. I thought to myself if I can't count on State Farm to back me when I need them most, who can I count on. If I was drunk and crashed into 4 cars and injured or killed people they would have to back me, so why shouldn't they back me when I am doing something completely legal that keeps the racing off the streets? I am now just playing the waiting game to find out what State Farm is going to do from here and I will keep you all posted. I wanted to thank all of you who helped me out with this incident, it is times like this when you start to realize who your friends are, and that there are a lot of haters out there. Thanks to everyone including the guys at GLD for their help."
