Hi,

I have a question. What is the best laptime recorded at nordschliefe by a stock camaro? I am wondering because I am curious of its handling abilities, I've heard that it has improved alot in the recent years. If you don't have any facts, what would be a good guess? How do you think it would go against an integra type-R, S2000 or M3?

Talking about BTG (bridge to gantry) times, I think a stock Z28 with stock suspension and stock tires (!) maybe could do a BTG lap in about 9:20m. I don't know for sure as I do not measure my own lap times. Roy once posted something about his own 9:30m lap (Roy?) and he has a better suspension and fantastic brakes (Movit/Porsche) so I think on perfect track conditions (low traffic, dry) he could do maybe 8:40...? I don't know.

Tires really help a lot. Can make a difference (depending on car) of 20 seconds on lap time.

Now I know a VW Lupo GTI (125hp) driver who did a BTG time of 9:05m. Would be faster than the stock Z28. The thing is the Camaro would be the clear winner in the straight sections but would lose in the tight bumpy corners. At least with a stock suspension you can't go that fast in such heavy cars as ours there...

BMW M3: Had one behind me once. Equal when going straight or fast corners, no chance for me in the tight sections. Overall: M3 is faster (as fast as 8:20m).

S 2000: Camaro faster on the straights. S2000 tend to crash on the N'ring as rear comes around very fast when they are losing traction. (8:45m I think; these are the fastest times with a very good driver!)

Integra Type-R: Same as S2000. (I'd say 8:50-8:55m).

Even if the Camaro isn't the fastest on this track, it's all about FUN, isn't it? :)

Is your car still going or already stored for winter? Just in case: I'm at the ring next Saturday and at the GrandPrix track next Sunday if weather is OK. :D

Yeah Ben she's down for the count. Since I broke the torque arm I haven't gotten around to ordering a new one. Plus is getting cold and don't have the race tires yet either she won't see that track til spring. I have some projects that I need to get on so I'll be ready then.

You'sa bad man if ya still going out there. But I know you know your limits. Maybe I'll come to put the audi out there and learn the track some more. :) No promises though....

My BTG times Have improved considerbly since I had started in the spring of 98 . I first started out at 11mins for a BTG . I thought that was quite good for what I knew of the track. But now my fastest is 8:30 with a 9 min BTG lap being the norm. A couple of things to remember is track memorization and to give yourself a break to relax and prep yourself for the next one. Tis a far cry from drag racing but it can be a lot more dangerous. We already had one member total his camaro at the ring and another got a ring stripe from one end to the other. If you go take care and be safe.

Well, when my memory serves me right, we held the official touring car lap record in '85 with our camaro,
beating the famous european champions Jaguar works team of Tom Walkingshaw at the Nürburgring.

And it definitely was FUN :wink:
You can see, everything is possible.
So, keep on trying and having fun.

I'm afraid that a few years back I did start recording lap times, but I stopped and concentrated more on getting the most out of every lap, regardless of time . I tended to use a lot of laps to concentrate on certain things, like slicing corner apexes with a strong drive to the rear that shoots you out of the corner hard on the gas, in the "zone" in which you can feel the tires slide sideways and bite while under hard acceleration.

I started concentrating on pieces of the track or racecourse, approaching it from a scientific point of view, then putting all the pieces together in to one flowing effortless series of motions- for me this takes time and practice- and the speed comes naturally. And significantly....

I found that when i put a timer on what I do I focus on the time instead on what I am doing...... so I stopped, and times did improve for me, by a great amount over a period of years.
