What a fantastic idea ! I'd love to go on a track with my Camaro but what do I have to do ? What does it cost ? Are you making a weekend of each trip and staying overnight ? Does one need a licence or training of some sort before they let you on ? Are helmets compulsory ?
I'd like to make it to Schleiz, when are you going ?

Depends on the event. Check the URLs above. Mostly it's a bit over 200 Euros for one day. Chambley is a very new track, this might be the first public drive event on it. This is a half day and costs 120 Euros. Oschersleben through DSK is 160 Euros for non-members. Quote: Are you making a weekend of each trip and staying overnight ? Depends on the event. I've done Spa without staying overnight and so I'll do Chambley. I'll stay overnight for the rest. Quote: Does one need a licence or training of some sort before they let you on ?
No, you just need a driver's licence and a car. Quote: Are helmets compulsory ? Yes, except for Oschersleben track. Quote: I'd like to make it to Schleiz, when are you going ? Should be a nice track since it's also partly a public road. Chambley (France): 18 April Oschersleben (Germany): 27 April Schleiz (Germany): 5 July Sachsenring (Germany): 21 August Remember for all events you should register as early as possible. Driving slots may be full if you arrive without registering. EDIT: BTW1: You'll like it. BTW2: I see you've got an LT1. Do you have improved your brakes in some way?

Thanks for the link to the pic, I was hoping it would be on track! Oh well...
Thanks for posting the track dates! I'll definitely try to make some of those!

What are the dates for Hochenheim? I wouldnt mind tagging along to one of these sometime if you dont mind. Ive done some autocrossing but havent raced on a high speed track (with turns) yet.

Hockenheim is a relatively easy track to learn, you just have to watch out for idiots crashing into your car... like it almost happened to A10Beav last time... Nuerburgring (Nordschleife) is much more interesting and challenging but takes much longer to learn. On the other hand the drivers there are more disciplined.

Now you've got me worried Ben. I know I can handle it, but I don't know the other drivers and what they are capable of. I guess I just never thought about someone else slamming into me.

Yeah, thats why I have been here almost three years and never went. But now my vette isnt my daily driver anymore so if something does happen, at least I wont be a pedestrian. I am going to get the Nitto road race tires before I hit the track too, maybe help me dodge the bad drivers.

Just watch all 4 directions (front, rear, left, right) all the time and the risk that something happens involving other drivers is greatly reduced. I haven't had any accidents with other drivers in all the years.

I think drivers on Nurburgring are more disciplined and still follow the rules of the road, there is also a lot more room to pass. Hockenheim is challenging to drive fast and there's less room to pass, but people there drive like they're going to win a trophy; this is what makes accidents more of a reality there. I'm glad I had Ben in the right seat, I may not have seen that car in time.

No. I am a member of the German DSK and the Belgian Skylimitevents club.
Some years ago I thought Pistenclub had a good price/performance ratio. But I don't think so anymore. Take e.g. an event in March (just watching, not participating): 500 Euro for a maximum of 4 track sessions (45 min each) in Hockenheim? No thanks...

There are still open slots for Sachsenring. Anyone interested?
I try to do Spreewaldring and Lausitzring the days before, but this is not sure yet.

Damn, looks like I'm not going to make it Ben. Any events after this one?

I want to do Zolder (don't know when yet) this year and hopefully Chambley again (no dates yet). And of course Hockenheim / Nring (finally back there this Saturday).

Hockenheim "Touristenfahrten" is open on August 20 and 27 only. I won't be there on the 20th as I'll do my "track tour" in the eastern part of Germany then.

You should come with the Ford if it's ready then...
