I just want to share this thread with you. In no way can I verify it, only to say that it is one of the several with same results.
This is a thread about a 5.0 running bottom 13's with about 1k in mods. I know that a LS1 runs this stock, but, from this time, all bets are off because it is a mod war from there.
Do yourself a favor and know your enemy. He (meaning any 89-93 5.0) is buying headers for 150 bucks, chips for 200, intake/head/cam combos for 1200 on the high end.
This probably not a drag racing topic at first glance, but you have been warned!!!
BTW I'm not trying to sway anyone over to the blue oval, but I like to know what I'm up against, either from GM, or Ford.

Once the Z is fully operational, and reliable, then I will drive it pretty much daily.
Im going to turn the other one into a play toy for the track. The Camaro is just to expensive to keep playing with, and I'm pretty much done with what I want to do to it.
So I guess the answer, is neither car is the beater. That was probably just my angle with the wife

Probably won't believe me but I've seen a 9 second (1/4 mile) VW Scirocco before. Unbelieveable. I used to have a clip of the run. I'll try and dig it up. It's not about what it will do stock anymore.....at all

There is a Russian car, called Moskwich - which is basically a piece of junk, run's 20's when stock and not all day long because it breaks very often.
Well, last weekend I saw different, not so stock;) Moskwich, which runs 10's all day long, while using original block (1500cm3) and head, his best is 10,5@139,8 mph. Car is in Finland and it's 100 % street legal too.
Pic of the beast:

It would be pretty sad sight, to run against this thing w. our Camaros.

10s w/1500? OK, looks stripped down pretty much, and I guess the bottle in the rear is the fuel tank? Pretty impressing still ...

Those pics are from last Saturday night, when we had last race of the season. One more example about the same subject - going fast for cheap:
If this stock exterior/interior Sierra would stop near you at the lights, you would not pay attention, right ?

It would be a mistake:D, he went 11,7 this night on rally tires, don't remember the trap speed.
There is "some engine work done", but otherwise it's stock rwd cosworth and low budget car, owner said that whole project cost him appr. $6000 incl. the price of the car and excluding the price of the beer he drank while working on it..

That's MoskVich there chet, he he. Missing the point here though. Anyone can take a cheap piece of garbage and turn it into a 10 second car but at the end of the day, it may a ridiculously fast piece of garbage but it remains just that. I'm sure the owners of Porsches humbled by some of the members on this site didn't rush out to buy a Camaro, if you know what I mean. Now, where's that advert for the Wartburg, the Trabant and the VAZ.

LuS1fer: yes it seems like you are missing the point. I'm not saying that this Moskwich is better car than F-body, because it's faster. It is just an example what can be done here locally, in order to go fast for cheap. Of course it's basically a piece of (fast moving)junk, but this car is built for street legal (in European terms) drag racing and going fast for 400 m. is only thing which matters - not the brand of the car.
And this is what this Moskwich is doing pretty well, he is not the fastest in his class (up to 4l. turbo) as fastest cars do run mid-low 9's, but still quite competitive. Of course anyone can try to achieve the same results here in Europe for similar money, but there is very few who are able to do it, it takes lot of work and knowhow. It's easy to modify a camaro or mustang, but try to work on the car which is usually not modified and which has 0 aftermarket support.
US is a bit different world - more opportunities, cheaper prices of aftermarket stuff and not so strict legislation regards modifying the cars.

This is a well reasoned and argued approach - but it's still a Moskvich and not a Moskwich so I'm afraid you lose the whole argument by default. He he.

Hey, you buy what you can afford, and then you modify it when you can.. Whatever kind of car it may be, that is a very respectable time.
