I have the plan to get at least one of my 'maros raceready for next year.
The 86 TTop will start with a 350 for the 11 in front of the komma - without juice. Try to beat that !

For the 1/8 mile I would take the ol'
1stTrophy-Winner-Maro&Bird-eating-Corolla.
Com'on, don't get silly
11 sec on the quarter mile.

oh and whoever wanna know:
I work on my cars myself with the help of friends in my backyard and no Opel or any other kind of certified mechanic is ever going to touch my engines !!!
(That is why I stay at 70's and 80's - less electronics )

Yeah, once you're off of the straight line, you can't stick with one ... unless you do some serious suspension work ... (OK, this might not apply to a 10year old Corolla This one will only beat you on the bracket runs ... Silke has an impressive number of kills in Sembach from 2001 ...)

Electronicphobia.
ok, one after the other:
In the 80's I started out with a ralleycar (Ford) I was always working (fixing) on,
same time I built 1 Audi out of 3 wrecked cars. Took them all apart and learned by looking at the pieces and put them back together to a new car like a puzzle.
Towards the 90's I tried to move on to BMW - and got very frustrated,
as a non-mechanic I lost big time when working on the beamer ...
So I gave up on german cars and went on to Toyota, in between as
second cars I drove CRX, Golf, Cherokee, Mercedes, Opel, Sierra, Blazer, VW, Mazda, ... I can not remember all.
But the most reliable car was that damn Corolla, 300 000 km with about 12 oilchanges and one set of mufflers, occasionally tires and 3 sets of window wipers. Oh I forgot, even put new brakes on two or three times. But that' it. Beating that thing over the Autobahn, through woods, rocks and beaches, all over Europe, always max speed and to the extreme.
Then I found a Dragstrip in Florida.
And then I found that the Corolla is good for the 1/8 mile, but that I would blow the engine on the quarter.
So time to move on. Dodge, Chevrolet.
But I am still not a mechanic, just a women with hobbies make my parents wonder if I am not insane...
and I do not care for too much electronics... since that d@mn Bayrische Mist Wagen.
Hm. I forgot to mention the Nissan Terrano. It has an electronic problem at the moment... and I can not figure out what's wrong with that d@mn thing... propably too much water... tested the 4-wheeler at some river rafting underwater-driving yesterday at the Schwarzbach but I need to know whenever I travel through Australia. Hm - maybe I better take a Toyota then.
Back to the thread: 11 sec on the quarter mile is my goal.
We shall see in March or April.

I once had an '84 Corolla 1.3. Tremendous car. You could beat up on it all day and it never went wrong. Never failed to start. That had 120,000 miles on the clock. The ignition was so worn, you could take the key out after you started it. When it eventually broke (cam belt snapped through never changing it), I took it apart and was amazed by the quality of bolts, retainers, plugs, relays etc used to build an economy car when Ford were still just screwing things straight to the metal.

Corolla 74 hp stock - 19 sec / quarter mile - reliable beater.
Camaro 11 sec. rebuild engine - headache sports car.
both start with a 'C', there is one r, one got two o and one a and the other one two a and one o but in between it is all different... we will see

You better have some traction because it is slippery out there. Look at hawk he has more than enough power to be in the 10s and he is still stuck in the 11s . Takes more than power got to have the suspension and traction. Cant go one way and sacrifice the other.

Not trting to bash the 3rd gen(i owned 3) but they one hard car to make fast. Try to make the body as rigid as possible.i.e. subframe connectors and braces. Their bodys flex a lot and you will see it at the back of your door windows on the roof. You have your work cut out for you Silke. I hope you are going to go with a solid cam because the only people I have seen with N/A 350s at or even around 500 horse are turning like 7000rpms and some massive flowing heads with high compession. And if you are going to go with a hydraulic flat tapet cam you wont see those rpms without valve float. Just trying to help

thank you, I really appreciate your advise... at the moment I hope to get at least the motor done... thought I get an organizational break over winter.
in dezember I will be three weeks in the states, my chance to pick up parts and mail them.
but on the other hand I won't be here working on my cars during that time.
I also got to get the platinum plate and the screws out of my leg this winter, which takes me down for a while... preferrably not when I go to the states.
then I am having appointments allover germany, track searching, track rental, problems of all kind.
was north germany last weekend at a meeting and be in berlin in the next few weeks besides my regular work at the DRMO and taking care of my daughter...
so... yes I have plans to work on my car(s), but sometimes I just don't know when.

I really think you should shoot for 14's first. A carburated NA SBC making 500 Ha pees will be $8000.
